Check Out Melvin Stakely Jr’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melvin Stakely Jr.

Hi Melvin , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Where I am today in my career is nothing more than a display of never giving up on myself or my dreams. Coming from a background of obesity, nutritional deserts, and from communities where we are fed processed and nutrient dense and deficient foods. The gaps in cost of living and access to healthy produce and food products can most times be scarce. Education and information has been key to carrying me thus far, utilizing them as keys to success and sharing with all I come in contact with. It’s vital to survival to know what helping us and what’s hurting us; and it starts with what you eat, then how active you are, and like everything consistency creates the discipline needed to finish what we started. Remember to always strive for what’s best and know nothing is accomplished without struggles and the prize we seek is usually on the other side of what we don’t want to go through…

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Whether working in a corporate environment or if you’re on an entrepreneurial journey; maintaining relationships is a major part of the struggles. Your success depends on the people you serve and the longevity of your career is at the mercy of that development. Most times the quality of your service is a reflection of more than just physical results. Communication and client based facilitation will be the glue for you and a successful future helping other reach health and fitness goals. I advise you always treat each individual as such and be prepared to go above and beyond to educate and guide those you are blessed to help along the way.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As for me a terrible back injury lead me this wonderful career. I have worked for just about every commercial gym out there. (24hour fitness, LA fitness, Planet fitness, Anytime fitness). I’ve worked as a private contractor for major corporations such as Molina Health care, Honda, Yamaha, and a few independent gyms; where I was able to grow and gain experience. I pride myself of keeping up with the ever changing field and new ways to provide expert guidance and service to all. I specialize in many fields like Exercise therapy, Senior & Youth fitness, Nutrition, Martial arts and Yoga (Trauma informed and Yoga Rx) I enjoy teaching SPINN classes, Cardio Kickboxing is so much fun to teach and guiding people through yoga movements amazing for the mind body and soul… I have gone out of my way to make sure I can help anybody in any condition on any level. As health professionals it’s our job! I’m proud at the fact that I have yet to tire gaining and applying more skills and knowledge to be better to a train better. What separates me from most is my level of understanding and dedication to the practices that so many benefit from that I’ll be sharing to my last breathes.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love the food but ya’ll can keep the mosquitos…
