Check Out Michelle Bang’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Bang.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
It was back in February 2020 while I was planning my own wedding that I stumbled into the floral industry. I was following the Blush Floral Instagram page where I saw they were looking for a floral intern, and found myself instantly intrigued about the position and industry. At the time, I was finishing up my last year at UH with not much excitement to graduate and get a corporate desk job. I immediately applied for the position and a week later I was the floral intern at Blush Floral. Over the last 5 years I have worked my way up in the company starting from floral intern, to jr designer, designer, studio + office manager, and now am the creative director + head of operations.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like most people, my path hasn’t always been smooth but has been overall an incredible journey.

One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced was juggling a ton of responsibilities in a fast-paced industry—especially in the wedding world, where everything is high stakes and super time-sensitive. It’s easy to get burnt out because you’re constantly working under pressure, meeting tight deadlines, and making sure every little detail is perfect for our client’s big day. There’s also the emotional side of it, weddings are deeply personal, and clients have high expectations so you always want to deliver your best 24/7.

At times, it felt like there just weren’t enough hours in the day to get everything done. I had to learn how to manage my time better, set boundaries, and not be afraid to ask for help when needed. I’ve gotten better at handling the pressure, but honestly, I’m still figuring out the whole work-life balance thing. When you love your job, it’s hard to mentally shut off and disconnect. My mind is constantly thinking about our upcoming weddings or even brainstorming some new design ideas. So the balance thing…. it’s a work in progress!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am the creative director and head of operations at Blush Floral Co. We are a modern floral design studio that specializes in artistic luxe florals while offering stylish design ideas for those planning a wedding or event in Houston and surrounding areas.

As the creative director, I meet with our clients to have a consultation to discuss the overall vision and details for their wedding/event then I create a custom proposal that brings their vision to life. I am then the one to curate color palettes, flower selections, design styles, candles and additional decor that enhances the overall event aesthetic. I work closely with our clients and planners to understand their vision and transform it into reality. As the head of operations, I am responsible for overseeing the teams workflow and ensuring we are working efficiently and having a smooth execution of floral designs based on our clients vision. I am the brain figuring out the teams logistics to execute a flawless and seamless event from start to end.

What I’m most proud of is my ability to turn a client’s vision into something truly breathtaking, and the experience I create for my client’s day. Flowers are more than just decor, they have the power to set the mood and create unforgettable experiences and memories, not just for our clients but for their guests as well, and I love bringing that magic to life.

I’m definitely a perfectionist and extremely Type A when it comes to my work, especially on wedding day. I firmly believe that design can always be perfected down to the very last detail, and I won’t stop until everything is exactly as it should be. On wedding day, you can find me fine tuning each arrangement, making sure your designs are perfectly centered on the table, every candle is placed straight up, and that the overall room feels balanced. I put an incredible amount of care into getting all the placement details perfect. Because of that, I’m known for my attention to detail, and ability to bring a truly polished, high-end vision to life.

How do you think about luck?
I think luck has played a role in some ways, but more than anything, it’s been about hard work, persistence, and being ready and open to change when opportunities come my way. There have been times when things just fell into place, like immediately locking in a date with your dream client or securing out of season blooms. Those moments were definitely lucky. But I’ve also had my share of challenges, like unexpected cancellations, supply chain issues, or times when things didn’t go as planned

If anything, I’ve learned that luck tends to favor preparation. When an amazing opportunity comes along, it only turns into ‘good luck’ if I’m ready to deliver. And when things don’t go my way, I see it as a chance to pivot and grow. So while luck has definitely played a role, I’d say it’s been more about how I’ve responded to those moments that have really shaped my path.
