Today we’d like to introduce you to Mona Jackson
Hi Mona, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I have been in the child daycare services field for over 30 years, with a deep passion for early childhood education and a long-held dream of owning my own preschool. In 2018, I started my preschool business with no loans, relying on small investments from friends and family. Over the past six years, we have grown to more than four locations and are on track to open our 5th and 6th locations this year.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Securing funding and loans at reasonable interest rates without relying on my personal credit has been a significant challenge as my company grows. Despite being praised for running a profitable business with excellent expense control, as a Black woman-owned business, I still face difficulties in obtaining adequate funding. This struggle is a common issue that has led to the closure of many childcare centers. Additionally, it’s tough to balance the price sensitivity of parents with the rising costs of employing staff. The introduction of free preschool programs in public schools for children aged three and older has also had a major financial impact, forcing many childcare owners to shut down.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As the CEO of Kids of Valor Academy, I’ve transformed a startup into a thriving seven-figure brand. Our company was honored as a Top Workplace 2024 by Homebase, and as a Black woman-owned business, we’re proud to employ an all-women team. My passion lies in providing affordable, high-quality child care. Being featured on Fundtank as a successful female entrepreneur is a significant achievement, especially considering my journey from being a teen mom who endured abusive relationships and homelessness. As the first in my family to graduate from college, I’m thrilled to share that we will begin franchising our brand next year.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
