Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Calhoun.
Hi Morgan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Sweet Texas Treasures started long before it ever became a storefront. Fashion has always been my thing — I majored in fashion merchandising, worked as a visual manager for Dillard’s, and eventually became a high school fashion design teacher. I loved every step, but deep down I always knew I wanted something that was mine.
As a mom, a trauma survivor, and a new believer, I’ve walked through a lot. Creating became my safe place… my way of rebuilding. I started making little treasures from home — custom tees, sewn pieces, whatever inspired me in the moment — and people connected with it. Those tiny beginnings slowly turned into something bigger.
Before I knew it, that spark grew into a full boutique. And now Sweet Texas Treasures in Lake Conroe is my heart in business form. It’s where my creativity, my story, and my community all come together. What started with me and a sewing machine has become a place full of color, personality, and Texas-made magic.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Has it been a smooth road?
Honestly… no. Building Sweet Texas Treasures has been one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done, but it definitely hasn’t been easy.
When I first started, I was figuring everything out as I went — learning how to run a business, keep up with orders, manage inventory, sew customs, and juggle social media, all while being a mom of two. There were plenty of late nights at the sewing machine and early mornings packing orders before school drop-off.
There were financial ups and downs (Covid!), especially in the seasons where I had to reinvest every penny back into the business. Some vendor events were incredible, and others barely covered the booth fee. And competing with big-box stores and fast fashion has always been tough, especially when people don’t always realize the difference between handmade, local work and mass-produced items.
I’ve also walked through a lot personally over these years — healing from trauma, growing in my faith, rebuilding my confidence, and learning to trust my creativity again. Trying to run a business in the middle of personal storms is something only another small business owner truly understands.
But through every challenge, Sweet Texas Treasures has pushed me to grow. It’s made me stronger, more resilient, and more grateful than ever for the customers and community who’ve stuck by me. The road hasn’t been smooth, but it’s absolutely been worth it.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Sweet Texas Treasures is truly a mix of everything I love — fashion, creativity, customization, and community. I design, sew, and create custom pieces right here in Texas, and I specialize in unique graphic tees, pullovers, and hats that you won’t find anywhere else. A lot of my work is done by hand, and I love being able to bring someone’s idea to life, whether that’s for game day, a special event, or just a fun everyday look.
What I’m most known for is my attention to detail and the personality I put into every single piece. Customers can walk into my boutique and feel like they’re getting something made for them, not just something off a rack. I think people really appreciate that personal touch — from sewing at events to customizing pieces on the spot.
What I’m most proud of is how far this little dream has come. I started with nothing but a sewing machine, a vision, and a lot of determination, and now Sweet Texas Treasures is a full boutique in Lake Conroe. I’m proud that my kids get to see their mom build something from the ground up, and I’m proud of the community that has formed around this brand.
What sets me apart is the heart behind the work. My background in fashion merchandising, visual management, and teaching fashion design definitely helps — but it’s the personal connection and creativity that makes STT its own thing. I’m not just selling clothes; I’m creating treasures that carry a story, a memory, or a moment for someone. And that’s what makes it special.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
People can work with me or support Sweet Texas Treasures in a few different ways! You can shop in-store or online for custom tees, pullovers, hats, and other treasures made right here in Texas. I also love collaborating with local events, schools, or organizations — whether it’s creating custom merchandise, sponsoring a giveaway, or setting up a pop-up booth.
Starting in January 2026, I’m especially excited to offer sewing lessons for anyone wanting to learn, grow, and create their own pieces. Whether you’re a beginner or just looking to sharpen your skills, these lessons will be hands-on, fun, and tailored to help you make something you’re proud of.
Supporting Sweet Texas Treasures is simple — shop local, share the love, follow along on social media, or join a sewing class and be part of our growing creative community!
