Check Out Nancy Perez’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nancy Perez.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My hairstylist journey started during the pandemic—yep, right in the middle of all the chaos. I signed up for cosmetology school not really knowing what the future would look like, but I knew I needed to follow something that felt true to me.

As a first-gen Mexican-American, I’ve always had a love for beauty, culture, and creativity. Once I got behind the chair, I realized how much I loved helping women feel confident and seen. I now work at an Aveda salon in Katy, TX where I specialize in blondes, brunettes, vivids, extensions, and Brazilian blowouts.

It’s been a journey—learning how to build a clientele from scratch, market myself online, and stay grounded in an industry that moves fast. But I’ve also had incredible opportunities, like working backstage at New York Fashion Week (twice!).

I’m still growing, still learning, but I’m so proud of how far I’ve come since 2020.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Starting my journey during the pandemic meant I had to learn a lot on my own, and in a constantly changing environment. Cosmetology school was a mix of virtual learning and hands-on practice with masks and social distancing—it wasn’t ideal, but I made it work.

Once I graduated, building a clientele from scratch was tough. There were slow weeks, self-doubt, and moments where I questioned if I was cut out for this industry.

One of the biggest challenges has been learning how to market myself and show up consistently on social media. I had to figure out everything from content creation to building trust with clients—without a roadmap. But all those struggles taught me resilience, and they’ve shaped the stylist and woman I am today.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in modern blondes—think dimensional, lived-in, low-maintenance looks that still feel high-end. Whether it’s a soft brightening session or a full transformation, I love creating custom blonde tones that suit each guest’s lifestyle and vibe. I also work with brunettes, vivids, extensions, and Brazilian blowouts, but blonding is where I really get to be creative.

What sets me apart is my attention to detail, the experience I create, and how much I genuinely care about my clients. It’s not just about the hair—it’s how they feel walking out. I’m all about making my clients feel pampered, confident, and like the best version of themselves.

I’m proud of how far I’ve come—building my clientele from scratch, growing my brand on Instagram, and getting the opportunity to work at New York Fashion Week (twice!). It’s wild to think that something I started during the pandemic turned into a career I truly love.

What are your plans for the future?
I’m really looking forward to growing even more as a stylist and creative. I’m currently working toward becoming a hair extension specialist and building a strong clientele that values healthy, luxury hair. I also want to keep leveling up my content and continue helping other stylists feel confident with social media and branding.

Long-term, I see myself becoming an educator—whether that’s through mentorship, teaching color or haircuts.

There are definitely big things ahead, and I’m excited for what’s next—but I know I’m right where I’m supposed to be.
