Hi Nguyet, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hello, My name is Sophie Nguyen and I am a local residence here in this great blooming city of Fulshear. I have been working in the cosmetology field for over 20 years and experienced many ups and downs, both as an employee and a consumer of this industry. My life long dream was to have my own salon and rectify some of the negative experiences that we all came across. My goal is to create salon where my clients will be happy after every service and also promote a clean, fair, and pleasant work environment for my employees so they can perform their trades to the best of their abilities. Self-education is important as I keep up with all the latest products and trend so I can train and instruct my employees with on-going knowledge to provide their services. I hope to develop successful business and keep Fulshear and surrounding area happy for a long time to come.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Life, for me, have been a struggle since birth. My family, from Saigon, Vietnam, was very poor. We did not have much growing up, but we depended on each other to survive. My dad pulled rickshaw and my mom sold commodities to put me through college. I graduated as a school teacher but soon got married and left for the USA. I left my family behind, thinking I would enter the US, with better opportunities and would eventually create a better life for both, my immediate family in Vietnam, and my new family in the USA. I married a verbally abusive and controlling husband. I was the poster image of a classic Cinderella girl in a family of abusers. I Self taught and learned how to live and work from the early years in the USA, from obtaining my driving license to cosmetology license. I finally divorce my husband 3 years ago and started on a new path. With the help if my best friend and now fiancée, I am putting my dreams together.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I first started with make-up. I did a lot of bridal parties and events in Vietnam. Before leaving for US, I was trained in a vocation school for cosmetology in Saigon, Vietnam. I started my cosmetology field in 2009 in Pennsylvania and eventually moved to Texas in 2022. I learned and did anything and everything in the nail industry that was popular. Naturally, over the years I’ve gained a lot of skills especially with gel products and designs. My clients are always complimenting how gentle I am with them and how beautiful my nail arts are. I focused my client base with Builder Gel because its so much better for their nails vs traditional powders and acrylics. What sets me and my Salon apart is our focus on customer service and our quality products we use. We do not and will not rush services on our client.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
My now fiancée, Duy Pham, is my biggest supporter. I first worked for him in PA and we became friends. Over the years, we both leaned on each other and supported each other with our personal hardships. We both cared about each other but never in a romantic way, Its only in the last few years, we saw how much we meant to each other and finally got together. My fiancée has provided a naturing environment for my mom and two beautiful girls. As we plant our roots here in Fulshear Tx, we build our business together. Duy and I have done everything together for the business. My biggest dream can now be seen, touched, and felt. It’s no longer a vision but a reality and Im so grateful for his love and support.
