Check Out Norma Ramirez’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Norma Ramirez.

Norma Ramirez

Hi Norma, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I’ve been in the hair industry since 2007 and have worked for my fair share for well-known corporations. Mostly in management, I’ve been promised many things by many companies and never could make ends meet. Being a single mom to 2 children, I always push my hardest to excel in everything I do. I went through deep depression, and one of my friends, who is an awesome mom and business owner, reached out to me about working with her in business. It came to the point where I was working for a corporation and my friend, and my friend encouraged me to go out on my own. It was very nerve-wracking because I would be starting from nothing, and making money would not be a guarantee like it was very SCARY! I did it for a year on my own, then I started helping a pregnant friend at her shop, and when it came time to renew my lease, we both decided my coming to her shop full-time was the best, then, a few short months later I became the official co-owner of The Bar-Ber Shop. I have worked my butt off to get us on Google organically and build relationships with all the clients that come in. whether they sit in my chair or not. This all happened in 2019 that I took part of The Bar-Ber Shop. In 2022 we did modifications to our 2-person suite and made room for one more and hired our first employee. Now, we are currently looking for our big storefront location in Cypress. While I’m doing this, I am currently get ready to walk the stage as I get my first degree as a first-generation college graduate in my family. I am also learning the ropes in life insurance to help families protect themselves and their children. It seems like so much, and I never thought I’d be here now from where I was before.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, definitely not a smooth road. There were times I was getting one client a day or no clients at all. I was posting on all social media like a desperate person or so it felt like just trying to get people to give me a chance. I ran so many specials and discounts just to try to get my name out there.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in men haircut and beards. I love love love beards though. This is probably what I’m known for and my awesome massages that come after a precision shave. The men say they love my scalp massages as well. I’m most proud of how I have combined my skills and personality to give people an experience that they never received elsewhere. I’m in my business to keep people happy and coming back to me. Haircuts and beard trims are available around every corner, but I’ve made it so they want to come back to me, and I’m super accepting of all people.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I think being able to provide a great service as well as connect to someone and really listen to their needs, and in my line of work, most times, it’s more than hair. They often refer to us as underpaid therapist because the clients will tell us things they need to get off their chest. To be the person who makes you feel your best and also listens to you just adds double the win for me. I love when people are happy, and I love that I help contribute to that.
