Check Out Oscar Flores’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Oscar Flores.

Hi Oscar, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
We created Houston to Galveston because we noticed a clear pattern: thousands of people arrive in Houston every week with one goal—getting to Galveston—and they have no clear, human, reliable solution to do it.

They arrive tired, with luggage, on tight schedules, some nervous because they’re about to board a cruise, others traveling for the first time, and some accompanying their families. And they all share the same question: How do I get there safely and on time?

Our answer was to build a service that eliminates that uncertainty completely.

There’s a part of traveling that almost nobody talks about, but everyone remembers. It’s not the flight, not the hotel, not the cruise. It’s that in-between moment, silent and decisive, when a person lands in an unfamiliar city and needs to reach their final destination without errors, stress, or wasted time. That’s where we come in.

At Houston to Galveston, we understand that ground transportation isn’t just a service—it’s the first real contact many travelers have with Texas, and often, the last memory before they return home. That responsibility shapes everything we do.

We don’t define ourselves as a traditional shuttle company. We define ourselves as managers of the journey. That means we don’t just move people from point A to point B—we manage time, expectations, and peace of mind.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Navigating the Uncontrollable: Weather, Roads, and Time

One of the greatest challenges in passenger transportation is the sheer number of factors that exist beyond human control. Weather conditions can change in minutes, turning a clear route into a hazardous one. Roads that appear safe one day may become unpredictable the next due to construction, accidents, or natural wear. Time constraints—whether driven by flights, events, or personal commitments—often add another layer of pressure.

What defines true professionalism is not the absence of obstacles, but the ability to adapt calmly when obstacles arise. Experience teaches that reacting impulsively to stress rarely leads to positive outcomes. Instead, preparation, situational awareness, and patience become the most valuable tools.

The Human Factor: Emotions, Expectations, and Stress

Beyond environmental conditions, there is another variable that is just as unpredictable: people. Passengers bring their own emotions, expectations, fatigue, and stress into every trip. Some are anxious. Others are in a hurry. Some may be frustrated by circumstances entirely unrelated to the journey itself.

In these moments, emotional intelligence becomes just as important as technical skill. Maintaining composure is not a sign of indifference—it is a sign of leadership. A calm demeanor helps de-escalate tension, reassures passengers, and creates an environment of trust, even under pressure.

Decision-Making Under Pressure

Stress has a way of narrowing perspective. That is why the ability to remain composed is directly linked to better decision-making. When the mind is clear, choices are deliberate rather than reactive. Routes can be adjusted wisely. Safety protocols can be followed without compromise. Communication becomes clearer, more respectful, and more effective.

In transportation, every decision echoes beyond the moment it is made. A calm decision can prevent an accident, avoid unnecessary conflict, or turn a difficult situation into a successful resolution.

Success Redefined

Success in this industry is not measured solely by arriving on time. True success is defined by arriving safely, responsibly, and with the trust of every passenger intact. Sometimes that means taking longer routes. Sometimes it means making difficult calls. And sometimes it means prioritizing safety over convenience.

Through experience, challenges, and countless miles on the road, one lesson remains constant: when passenger well-being comes first, every journey—no matter how complex—has the potential to end successfully.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
At Houston to Galveston, we do more than move people from one place to another—we guide them through one of the most critical moments of their journey. We specialize in reliable, stress-free ground transportation between Houston airports and the Galveston area, serving cruise passengers, leisure travelers, families, corporate clients, and groups who value clarity, professionalism, and peace of mind.

What truly defines our work is our understanding that the journey begins long before a traveler reaches their destination. That first transfer—after a long flight, in an unfamiliar city, often on a tight schedule—is where trust is either earned or lost. We’ve built our entire operation around honoring that moment.

We are known for precision, consistency, and human-centered service. Our specialization lies in managing complex logistics with simplicity: coordinating arrivals, monitoring traffic and weather conditions, adjusting to unexpected changes, and ensuring that every passenger feels supported from the moment they step off the plane. Behind every smooth ride is careful planning, real-time decision-making, and a team trained to stay calm under pressure.

What we are most proud of is not just our track record, but our mindset. Over time, we’ve learned that success in transportation is not about speed alone—it’s about judgment, responsibility, and care. The well-being of our passengers always comes first. Every decision we make, from route selection to timing to communication, is filtered through one essential question: Is this the safest and smartest option for the people who trust us with their journey?

What sets us apart from others is our belief that ground transportation is not a background detail—it’s the opening chapter of the trip. We don’t treat rides as transactions; we treat them as experiences that set the tone for everything that follows. Travelers remember how they were received, how smoothly things flowed, and whether they felt confident and at ease. That awareness shapes how we train our drivers, how we communicate with our clients, and how we operate every single day.

In an industry where unpredictability is inevitable—weather changes, road conditions, delays, and human variables—we distinguish ourselves through composure and preparation. We remain steady when circumstances are not. That ability to stay clear-headed under pressure allows us to make better decisions, reduce stress for our passengers, and consistently deliver successful outcomes.

At the end of the day, we are proud to be the quiet constant in a traveler’s journey—the part that works so seamlessly it almost goes unnoticed, yet would be deeply missed if it didn’t. That’s the role we’ve chosen, and it’s one we take seriously, every mile of the way.

How do you think about luck?
Luck is often mentioned in stories of success, but in our experience, it has never been the driving force behind what we’ve built. If anything, luck has played a minor and unpredictable role—sometimes favorable, sometimes challenging—but never decisive. What has truly shaped our journey is preparation, consistency, and the ability to respond thoughtfully when circumstances don’t go as planned.

In our line of work, relying on luck is not an option. Transportation operates in real time, under real pressure, with real people depending on every decision we make. Weather changes without warning. Flights are delayed. Roads close unexpectedly. In those moments, outcomes are determined not by chance, but by judgment. We’ve learned that what some might call “bad luck” is often simply a test of how well prepared we are to adapt.

There have been moments when things aligned smoothly, and others when challenges appeared all at once. We don’t view either as luck. We see them as part of the landscape of responsibility that comes with being the first and last touchpoint of a traveler’s journey. When everything goes right, it’s the result of planning and teamwork. When things go wrong, it’s our ability to stay calm, make clear decisions, and protect our passengers that defines the outcome.

If luck has played any role at all, it’s in the people we’ve crossed paths with—clients who trusted us early on, team members who shared our standards, and passengers who gave us the opportunity to prove ourselves again and again. But even then, trust is not something luck sustains. It’s something that must be earned daily.

Ultimately, our business is built on the belief that success should never depend on chance. We plan so our passengers don’t have to worry. We prepare so that uncertainty doesn’t become risk. And we operate with the understanding that the most important journeys are too important to leave to luck.
