Check Out Patrícia Ferreira’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Patrícia Ferreira.

Hi Patrícia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Fashion has always been a part of my life, as early as elementary school I was already drawing clothes and collecting Vogue and other fashion magazines, picking up my favorite designers and watching FashionTV all day. I continued with it until college, when I was admitted to the prestigious Portuguese School of Arts and Design (ESAD) with the course in Fashion and Jewelry Design. During that time, also worked with European brands as stylist, merchandiser and window dresser.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Well, I never finished college in Portugal actually! Back then I had a Professional Ballroom & Latin Dance career along with my Fashion studies, and both got so demanding at some point, that I could only focus and excel at one, so I had to choose…

I chose dancing because that’s a short career and Fashion I can always go back to it, it will always be here for me.
So I moved to the USA in 2009 to pursue a professional career in arts and ballroom dance and opened a dance studio – Patricia’s Dance Lessons, you can read an interview here on Voyage Houston about it, several years ago –
fast forward I officially retired and sold the business, because I knew it was time to go back to the Fashion world. So much was happenning, so much had to be studied and written.

And I temporarily moved to Miami for a while, because of their wonderful fashion Scene. I took courses at Istituto Marangoni, attended Miami Fashion Week and Miami Swim Week, and collaborated with CHIC Miami Magazine for fashion news and reports.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have diplomas from the prestigious school Istituto Marangoni Miami, in Fashion Styling and Fashion Business. Part of my work it’s do styling for brands and shows, but what I love about fashion it’s that goes beyond clothes. Fashion it’s actually a response to Culture, Politics, Economics and Environment. It’s our every day that makes fashion, there’s a lot of history to it, we just have to look around us. So I created a program/podcast, called #fashionserieswithpatricia on InstagramTV, that I interview fashion professionals from all over the world. I wanted a show for everyone, not just for people in this industry. I want to bring fashion information to the masses, with an educational approach, so people can understand it, how to make the right choices, and to trust it. Then I publish it all in my blog “The Gal With Two Names”, it’s an open book about fashion and you can learn so much there!

There is so much beauty in fashion, and clothes are just a part of it. A lot of creativity and inspiration.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I met wonderful people in Miami during the time I was studying there at Istituto Marangoni and also at the Fashion Weeks. This is a very competitive business, and sometimes you need to have the “connections”… but not once I feel discouraged, because after 17 years in the dancing and entertainment industry, it’s just as tough, so I just kept pushing to my best and not give up. I was fortunate enough to meet a few people that gave me the opportunity to write for magazines, and introduce me to internationally renowned designers, because they know how difficult it is to start on your own and have someone who trusts your work and lets you be creative.
