Today we’d like to introduce you to Peyton Howard.
Hi Peyton, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I started off recording in my home studio and teaching myself how to produce and mix. I took piano lessons growing up, and I taught myself guitar and a few other instruments, so once I got the basic equipment I needed, I started working on learning how to record and produce my own music. I started recording loops of my instruments and trying to put pieces together and eventually started making full songs, and now I’m a full-time musician.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been a learning process more than anything. A lot of the initial hurdles were more on the technical side since I didn’t know what I was doing as far as producing and recording. I spent tons and tons of time just learning everything I possibly could about every aspect of music production so I could make the final product sound professional despite being recorded in a home studio. That was definitely where most of the struggles were. It’s also hard to get your feet wet with performing live, so navigating that area has also been a bit tough, but I’m having a great time struggling through it.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a musician that I feel specializes in genre-blending. I always find it hard to describe exactly what genre of music I make because I tend to lean into whatever I’m currently enjoying listening to, so I don’t shy away from trying out new styles just to see what I can make. I have a songwriting style that is unique to me, but the music behind the lyrics tends to vary and jump around depending on how I’m feeling. I like to experiment and make myself uncomfortable when I’m writing, so I try to push myself a little and try to incorporate my own flavor into different genres while still keeping my discography cohesive.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
My girlfriend and my family have always been huge support systems for me throughout my music career. They always come to shows and listen to my releases and give their thoughts and input, and it’s been extremely valuable. My two younger brothers also play in my live band so getting to spend that time with them is so much fun. I also always love shouting out two specific people in interviews: my high school choir director, Jason Womack, for always supporting and pushing me, and one of my old bosses, KB, for letting me take off work or miss shifts to record or play shows, so big shout out to them.
