Today we’d like to introduce you to Plain Jane The Poet.
Hi Plain Jane, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a God-fearing woman, and I believe God gave me this beautiful gift. I love to write poetry. I started writing poetry when I was very young. I just recently started to do more spoken word performances. I have a book that I recently self-published called “Vision.” The book consist of many poems of various subjects. Writing poetry is truly a beautiful art form.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My life is not a smooth road, and I do run into obstacles and challenges. Life without challenges wouldn’t be life at all. I went through bad breakups, spiritual warfare, emotional abuse, and more. I hate that I went through a lot of turmoil, but I needed to. I am who I am because of it. Challenges make you stronger and more aware of everyday life.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
My poetic style comes from three different avenues. I create poems out of dreams. I create poems out of everyday experiences. I create poems based on pure imagination. My imagination gets tricky, so I need to place it on paper. Poetry is my first love, but I experienced a new art form this year. I like to paint. I like to draw. I’m pretty good at it for just starting out. When I paint, the brain slows down. When I write, the brain speeds up. I don’t know what new art form will meet me in the middle.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love the people, and the atmosphere is always inviting. I like being in spaces that make me feel welcome.
