Today we’d like to introduce you to Platinum Music
Platinum, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Kardell Rodgers stage name Prince Ken was born and raised in Port Arthur, Texas. He moved to Atlanta in 2021 after being signed to a talent/model agency. After spending a little time there he decided he wanted to pursue music and started to write to random beats he would find online. A few months later he released his first solo EP on streaming services.
Remond West stage name Mond is born and raised in Houston, Texas. He was introduced to music at the early age of 2 when he attended church, later participating in the choir. At age 14 he began to rap and started to write his own music. Over the years he has released songs on SoundCloud and YouTube.
Kardell and Mond met in summer 2024 and collaborated on the song “Soft Boy” under the name Platinum Music, forming a music duo. The two artist decided to join forces to bring a new and fresh sound to music and are in the process of recording their group EP.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Independent artist are always faced with various challenges they have to overcome. From finances, to getting others to listen to your music, and how to properly market yourself.
Being an independent artist is also taxing when you have to deal with real everyday challenges. Not having a stable community to support you while you find your footing weighs on your mental and artistic aspirations.
Group wise, the biggest problem we would have is our location. Even though we are in a group we live in two different cities so meetings and check ins are required and detrimental to our operations.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We are a music duo that specializes in Rap/Hip-Hop/R&B, but our sound can fit into any space. With the power of two voices and artistic vision, we are able to combine the best of our separate worlds and create something new.
Mond is a powerhouse with in-your-face lyrics, an unapologetic attitude, and has skills as a versatile rapper/singer. He comes on the scene fully knowing who he is and what he wants to do and say.
Ken has a controlling cool aura with complex confident lyrics, coy like mannerisms, and a versatility presence. His lyrical focus is catchy and calculate because of his love for words.
Together as a duo we fill the gaps in each other’s weaknesses. Our songs range from party anthems, real life situations, and hard core rap deep cuts.
The sound we created together is what sets us apart. We feel as though we’ve created something new but familiar. We hope others can catch the vibe we’re trying to create because it’s time to give rap/music in general, some new faces.
The environment of music and rap in general is missing group commissions. Groups pioneered the U.S. music scene until the late 00’s, but now music is at a weird place because there are to many singular voice. We hope to usher in a new age of music groups that will change music for the better.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
Honesty, as a group we’re going to say that we mainly support ourselves.
A lot of people want to say they supported you because they said a kind word or wished you well, but in this environment support means pushing our product.
We are the only ones that keep ourselves on track and put forth anything when it comes to our projects. Yes, we have the “support” of those closest to us, but we know that the ones on the outside are gonna get it first, then the ones closest to us will hop on. We welcome all support because we’re supporters, we just know we gotta work hard to get there so we’re gonna have to be patient.
