Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel B*tchface
Hi Rachel, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I know this is cheesy but it’s true, I did not find drag, drag found me. In college, someone introduced me to RuPaul’s Drag Race and all of the sudden, there was a whole new opportunity in life. New possibilities for what I could do with this life I was granted. I started attending local drag shows and I was hooked. During the pandemic, I decided to quit theatre, which I had been doing all my life and professionally. I finally had enough time to practice my makeup and see about this crazy drag thing. I have not stopped since, and I don’t plan on it. It’s too much fun! Too many amazing things have happened to me since I started, and I am exponentially happier.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not! When I started out, I had a big social anxiety problem which did not translate well to others. Succeeding in drag means having good standing and relationships with other queens. It took me a few years to come out of my shell enough to be able to show others my true self. Drag has really helped me overcome my introverted qualities and breakout of that “I don’t know how to talk to people” mold. When I’m in drag, I am more confident to say anything to anyone which is very liberating. What I am working on right now is being able to access that same power when I am out of drag.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
DRAG! What sets me apart is my performance style. I had a choice when I was starting out. Am I going to be a dancing, buck-the-house-down kind of queen, or am I going to force myself to rely on other attention grabbing qualities like my face and eyes. Baby, drag queens don’t have insurance! I am a porcelain doll. I break. After a few years of honing this idea of engaging the audience through the power of acting and lyrics, I consistently deliver. At first, it was very hit or miss. I feel like I’m finally standing on solid ground in my performance style, which makes me very unique. I have also become quite the business woman, successfully running the show at Piggy’s Kitchen & Bar for almost two years, and starting new shows at huge venues such as The River Oaks Theatre and The Rooftop Cinema Club.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
You can find me all throughout Houston but more specifically, every single Wednesday night at Piggy’s from 7-9PM for “It’s Bingo, B*tch!” or “Top Tier Trivia” which is the last Wednesday of each month.
