Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Ortega.
Hi Rachel, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Photography has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. As a kid, I was always the one with a camera, capturing photos at family gatherings, of my pets, and the world around me. In high school, I took photojournalism, which deepened my love for storytelling through images. I loved the challenge of freezing a moment in time and letting a single photograph speak volumes.
Life moved forward, and I built a beautiful family with my husband, our three kids, and our dogs. My passion for photography never faded, but I had never seriously considered turning it into a career until one of my best friends gave me the push I needed. With that spark of inspiration, I threw myself into learning more honing my skills, experimenting with natural light, and discovering my love for capturing genuine connections and the little moments that make life special.
I created a photography page, built my portfolio, and before I knew it, more families were reaching out for sessions. Today, I’m incredibly grateful to do what I love—freezing heartfelt moments that families can cherish forever. My journey started with a simple love for photography as a kid, and now, thanks to the encouragement of a dear friend, it’s grown into something truly meaningful.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Balancing a photography business, a full-time accounting career, and a family with three kids and dogs is no easy task. It requires time management, boundaries, and a lot of flexibility. Since photography isn’t a traditional 9-to-5 job, it often means working evenings and weekends—on top of an already busy work schedule.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in family portraits, capturing the deep connections between loved ones. My work isn’t just about posing for a picture it’s about creating warm, authentic moments that families can cherish forever. Whether it’s kids laughing together, a quiet embrace between parents, or the unbreakable bond between a pet and their owner, I focus on storytelling through images.
I’m proud that I built a thriving photography business while juggling a full-time accounting career and raising a family of three kids (plus my dogs!). I’m proud of how far I’ve come. From loving photography as a kid to taking photojournalism in high school, and now running a business fueled by my passion. Most importantly, I take pride in the smiles, reactions, and heartfelt messages from clients who truly cherish the moments I’ve captured for them.
What sets me apart from other photographers is personal connection. I understand family dynamics firsthand as a mom of three, which helps me create a comfortable, fun, and stress-free environment during sessions.
