Check Out RaeShawn Thompson’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to RaeShawn Thompson.

RaeShawn, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I will never forget the first time makeup caught my eye, it was when I was in elementary at a family gathering in my hometown, Beaumont, Texas. As a family friend greeted everyone, I was mesmerizing over how she looked. She had fierce red lips, defined eyebrows, and dreamy lashes. She looked so amazing and had so much confidence, I remember wanting to feel that way. Since I was too young to wear makeup, I decided to draw as a creative outlet.

Once I got in middle school, my parents let me experiment with mascara and eyeliner. I also started designing graphics, took an art class and a home economics class where I learned to sew. When I got to high school, my cousin gave me other makeup products to use. I became so good, my family and friends started encouraging me and asking me to do their makeup, to design clothes, and to design graphics for them. Eventually, I became so intrigued with how art and makeup made me feel good. I also loved how it made me help others feel better about themselves. As a result, I started buying my own makeup and art supplies.

However, I had to dim my talent my senior year of high school to work two jobs. After I graduated high school, I moved to Houston so I can go to college. I sold clothes and worked at many different places including Walgreens, where I became a beauty expert while majoring in engineering. At the time my only focus was money, but I quickly learned that if you do what you enjoy and love money will come.

Therefore, I switched my major and graduated with my Bachelor’s in Fine Arts in 2017. Afterward, I became an art teacher. Even though I was great at it, I did not like being confined by a classroom structure. I always thought about how much I enjoyed doing makeup and how I never had time to create art anymore.

Then, in 2020 when the pandemic happened schools shut down and I had more time to do things that I enjoyed again. I started doing makeup and creating art again. I started an Instagram (@raeofbeautymakeup_) to post makeup on and I started posting my art on my personal page stories (@bubbaalove).

Now in 2022, I decided to take a leap of faith and become a serial entrepreneur by starting my first business, “Rae of Beauty”, where I provide exceptional makeup services full-time in my own studio. Rae of Beauty is located in the South West part of Houston and is only the beginning. I will have my own makeup line, sell other merchandise, and have an art studio in the near future. To end, I would not be where I am today or where I will be in the future without faith and staying true to who He wants me to be.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it has not been a smooth road. Some struggles I have had along the way is having patience, keeping my anxiety under control, finding balance, and just overall learning how to start and run a business.
