Today we’d like to introduce you to Reanna Brock
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have always been a creative person. I started as a painter, then tried sculpture, tattooing, and anything else I could get my hands on. I started designing jewelry pieces for myself in a sketch book just for fun, and decided that I wanted to see if I could make them a reality. I spent months watching YouTube videos and reading forums online before I finally committed to purchasing everything I needed to get started. As soon as I had the tools in my hands and I made my first ring, I was completely hooked. After about a year, I started my business, and I have been really dedicated to it since. I love being able to create something tangible that I know someone will wear for years and years .
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’d say it’s been pretty smooth since it started as a hobby and has turned into a side business. The only struggle now is that it is all I want to do, but I have a long road ahead of me to make that a reality.
I will say that being self taught comes with a lot of headache sometimes, but it’s all part of the process
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a silversmith. I make jewelry By either hand forging it or using the lost wax casting method (carving in wax and casting in metal)
I am known for my celestial themes and probably for my use of certain stones like opal, aura opal, moonstone, and garnet .
As far as being set apart, I try to keep my work at least slightly cohesive so that my client base continues to enjoy the things that I create . I am going through a bit of a change in my style currently though . I am really loving making rings as well, but my clients are all about the necklaces, so I can’t stop making those . And I love them too! Especially starting to make charms now .
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice would be to just do it. YouTube university is more than enough to get started! Also, a lot of the tools aren’t too expensive and you can upgrade along the way, but invest in a good flex shaft and torch. Those have made my work flow so much better ! It’s night and day.
