Check Out Sadie Gomez’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sadie Gomez.

Sadie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was a high school graduate in southern Ohio in 2011. I loved art and knew I had to follow my dream of doing something creative. My art teacher recommended I try beauty school because she also knew my love for beauty. She was right, and I was instantly obsessed with doing hair.

From the time I graduated from cosmetology school, I worked at a couple of shops in Ohio and would soon move to Texas with my husband back to his hometown, where I would be hunting for my salon home. No matter what salon I would be at, I always found it easy to build up my clientele. I knew my skills still needed a little sharpening, but I had something most of my peers lacked, which was passion. It wasn’t just about giving someone a haircut and moving on to the next client; I wanted that client’s experience in my chair to outshine any time they had been to a salon. My clients noticed that.

When I found my salon home, Salon Bugatti, for the next four years, I knew I had found my people. My energy and passion for this industry were matched. I was working with such talented stylists and was learning so much.

Once we were able to return to work after the pandemic, I could see that there was a change in what clients and I were looking for in the salon environment. I felt we were all anxious, and something wasn’t working. Shortly after returning, I got pregnant with my first daughter, Coraline; I have always been very cautious of the products I bring into my life. I try to stay away from harmful chemicals that have adverse effects on my health. That increased after having my daughter; I knew I wanted to stay as healthy for her as possible. Then I started to think about the daily chemicals I use on my clients; I knew my clients were more aware of the products they decided to work with. I wondered how can I give my clients a relaxing, safe experience while giving them beautiful hair. I decided I wanted to create a space where my clients could have a relaxing spa experience while receiving a hair service with all non-toxic products. That space was going to be called Holistic Hues. I was ready to take the reins on my business and have been working hard on Holistic Hues Salon. I am excited to say it will be making its grand opening on October 13th.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I have had some struggles along the way. I have always struggled with how much the salon drained all my energy. As much as I loved the music and the banter between coworkers and clients, I knew it was not sustainable for my well-being. After having my daughter, I knew I needed some energy left when I got home to give to my family. The space I have created for Holistic Hues Salon will be a place where it fuels my energy and clients.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I create a relaxing space while providing hair services while using non-toxic products. The type of hair I create is low-maintenance color and balayage and precision haircuts. Giving them the hair they can live in while feeling beautiful and that has a graceful grow out.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My last salon, Salon Bugatti. The owners, Emily Cooper and Chris Jones, gave me such a beautiful environment to work and grow. Everyone at the salon is exceptionally talented, and my skills grew so much while working there.
