Check Out Shari Tackert’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shari Tackert.

Hi Shari, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began my journey to become a licensed esthetician in August 2017 when I enrolled at Aveda Institute in Austin, Texas. I was 48 year old in a classroom full of twenty somethings and had several other careers up until then including human resources and teaching. After approximately six months coursework including classroom and on the job clinic work, I received my certificate, was voted Class Valedictorian, and followed up with obtaining my license by the state of Texas. I began working at a local day spa in Brenham where I live, but fairly quickly felt I wanted to transition to creating my own business offering facials, peels, and waxing services. Skincare by Shari began in a tiny rented room in December 2019 in the building of a local chiropractor’s office. An opportunity came up after a short time to rent a larger space so I grabbed it. Around this time, I had a few solid clients and was booked out about two to three weeks. At the time, my daughter who had obtained her cosmetology license, and I wanted to open our own mother/daughter business and began looking for the perfect space. We found an older house that had the perfect layout for a small spa… a large room to be my treatment room and another large space to create into a hair salon with two other possible rooms for services of some kind. We spent several weeks painting and fixing the place up, and Euphoria was born. We opened August 2021. Since then, my skincare clientele has grown tremendously and I remain booked about 4 months out. I provide a customized signature facial that is heavenly.. total relaxation with glowing results. I provide a couple of other specialty facials, as well as peels, facial waxing, and treatment of minor skin irregularities. I currently retail three professional skincare lines that my clients love. I have my salon rented out to a hairstylist who specializes in all things blonde, another amazing esthetician in another room, and a very talented massage therapist in another room. As soon as you walk in to Euphoria, not only do you experience a serene, quiet, welcoming place, but you are treated a a special guest. Euphoria is truly a place of happiness, joy, and a haven from the busyness of the world.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Opening a spa meant it was no longer a one woman job. I had to invest in hiring and training a spa coordinator. As many small businesses struggle with finding and retaining good employees, my business was not the exception. After a few failed attempts to find someone reliable and loyal, I determined the best move would be to go back to the one woman show. Instead of having a spa coordinator to maintain the store front and a hired esthetician, I began renting out my rooms to independently owned female service providers. We now maintain an open by appointment only type of business which has worked out extremely well so far.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Providing facial services to my clients, to me, involves the perfect balance of art and science. The art is in the human touch. I use a creative, soothing, and healing physical touch during my facial. I have taken multiple facial massage courses and include different techniques in each service customizable to the client’s needs. Not only is the face itself massaged, I use a hydrating facial oil infused with hyaluronic acid to gently but firmly stimulate the client’s facial tissue and muscles, focusing also on the jawline which can become slack with age, the often neglected neck and decollete that shows the wear and tear of age and overindulgence of the sun over time, and also the glabella, the small space between the eyebrows which can gain creases from overuse of facial expression or frowning. I provide a scalp massage as well as hand and arm massage during each facial as well. The art of human touch is truly healing. The science comes in the form of the knowledge of skin and includes understanding the layers of the skin, skin type, skin conditions, ingredients used in skincare, and all the amazing technology that has come about in the last few years. In my first several years of learning my craft as an esthetician, i took multiple courses on multiple topics, read book and book on skincare, every magazine I could get my hands on, as well as spent a huge amount of time studying successful estheticians by watching their You Tube broadcasts and other social media posts. I joined multiple Facebook groups focusing on skincare and learned so much from other estheticians presenting problems and pleas for help with certain issues. I am most proud of the fact that I have found a career to flourish in, to provide a consistently amazing service to every client every single time, and that I have loyal clients who have been coming to me for over seven years. I would hope that my sincerity to help my clients feel beautiful in their own skin is what sets me apart.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
My clients may not know how much time I spend preparing for their service. I arrive at least an hour early every morning to make sure that my space is ready for my clients. Soft music playing, pleasant aromas, tidy, organized, and clean environment, warm steam towels that must be preheated, all of my skincare products laid out and ready for use, all of the disposables used are laid out, the treatment bed is heated and includes fresh clean sheets and an artificial rose at the head of the bed, perfect lighting, quiet atmosphere… there is no detail that hasn’t been thought of. My goal is for me to be mentally and emotionally prepared for my client’s arrival by keeping negative energy away from my personal space so that when my hands touch my client, only healing, loving, serving energy is felt.
