Check Out Shomari Mosby’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shomari Mosby.

Hi Shomari, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Back in 2020, I walked into a pawn shop to look and see what they had. The first thing that made me stop and look was a Canon eos rebel t3i. When i laid eyes on that camera, I knew I wanted it! So I bought it, the owners of the shop also gave me a deal on it! Since that day, I’ve had a camera on me at all times. Still to this day! I started out shooting graffiti and street art. When I got more comfortable I started shooting portraits of my friends and family. Once I learned how to shoot manually I got into event photography, creative portraits, fashion shows and all kinds of other things. Really just trying to shoot everything I found interesting and that lead me to focusing on portraiture, fashion and branding. Where I am now.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Ohh it has been everything but smooth. Haha. Far from smooth to be frank. There’s gonna be days that suck and days that make you feel like king of the world. I’ve had terrible clients & collabs. Im sure there’s a few that want to fight me… Theres been times I’ve contemplated putting the camera down. Sometimes it’s an experience I had & sometimes it’s my own self doubt. I’ve lost friends, equipment & I’ve been homeless or between spaces ( to be more positive ) a few times since I started. Like I said it’s been everything but smooth.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I consider myself an artist. My work evokes emotion & thought through light & shadows.
I specialize in portraiture. Editorial, creative, fashion & Branding. Authentic storytelling & artistic expression are what i feel i am most know for. I’ve never been one to blatantly copy anything, I have to make it my own every way possible. I’ve always been my own man, always have stood tall alone & I think that’s what sets me apart. No FOMO here haha.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I find it’s always best to be yourself when networking. Open up a little because who cares?. Don’t be afraid of what people think about you, just be a good person and tell people what you do! What if it goes well ya know? As far as finding a mentor, just ask someone in your field you find inspiring or educational. Put yourself out there vulnerably. Let the person know you want to learn. That’s how I’d go about it. I personally don’t have a mentor per se, I just ask my mom or figure it out myself which is sometimes the hard way.
