Hi Tara Dugal, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
We’ve always been enchanted by fall—it’s our favorite time of year. What began as decorating our own homes turned into something much bigger. Last winter, we read an article about an entrepreneur who created pumpkin displays in their community, and it inspired us to bring our own small business to life. By late 2024, we officially launched Pumpkin Perfect, preparing for our very first fall season.
This September, we were over the moon to receive our first order, and since then, we’ve been setting up beautiful pumpkin displays every few days! It’s been such a fun, rewarding adventure. Both of us have full-time jobs, so our evenings and weekends are now happily spent spreading a little fall magic around Houston.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like any new small business, it hasn’t all been smooth sailing, but that’s part of the fun! We launched Pumpkin Perfect while both working full-time, so juggling schedules has been one of our biggest challenges. Most of our setups happen in the evenings or on weekends, which means a lot of late nights and pumpkin-filled car rides.
There have also been plenty of funny little hurdles—long evenings spent lifting what feels like hundreds of pumpkins, and weekends turning our laundry rooms and garages into makeshift pumpkin prep stations. Every little quirk has been worth it. Seeing our clients’ reactions when their porches transform makes all the effort feel magical!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Professionally, we’re an awesome duo. Evelin Wirtmann works as a senior graphic designer with a masters in fashion merchandising and Tara Dugal is a senior operations manager with a masters in business. Together, we uniquely pair creativity with strategy to bring Pumpkin Perfect to life.
Pumpkin Perfect specializes in creating beautiful, welcoming fall porch displays that feel both elevated and effortless. Every design is custom-curated to match the style of each home, from cozy neighborhood porches to elegant entryways.
We’re most proud of how personal our work feels. Every setup is done by us, from hand-selecting the pumpkins to arranging every detail on-site. What sets us apart is the care and craftsmanship behind each display—it’s more than just décor; it’s about creating a little moment of autumn charm for every family or business we work with.
How do you think about luck?
We’ve been really lucky to have the support of our community from the very beginning. Some wonderful local women-owned businesses, influencers, and friends were a big part of gaining visibility and building momentum in our first season.
The encouragement and word-of-mouth enthusiasm truly surprised and delighted us. It reminded us how special it is to be part of a community that celebrates and uplifts small businesses. That support has been such a big part of our early success—and we think’s it’s proof that a little fall magic goes a long way!
