Check Out Thuraya Altai’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Thuraya Altai.

Hi Thuraya, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
As I’m approaching my goals as a content creator, I’ve learned many things about myself, most importantly that I’m different, and I embrace my differences. I started working in content creation at a very young age and began modeling at the age `of 15, I’m now a full-time content creator, and my content is related to fashion, beauty, and lifestyle, and I’m also a licensed real estate advisor.

I learned that if you do what you love, you will succeed no matter how long and challenging the road is.

I began modeling in high school and was introduced to fashion, beauty, and entertainment. I was scouted in Austin, Texas, by a modeling agency and began booking local modeling jobs, and took off from there. I never left school, and I graduated with a bachelor’s in philosophy from the University of Houston. During my modeling days, my love for creating content and documenting my life became a passion of mine, I began my YouTube channel, and my whole life changed after that; my social media presence started growing and still is. I started working with prestigious brands, Prada, Valentino, Giorgio Armani, and more and I have started two podcasts, one in Arabic and one in English. I never expected my career to go through all these paths, but I was living my best moments through it all. I have a lovely community online and offline as a real estate agent licensed in the state of Texas.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Being a content creator and model comes with responsibilities; I choose to have an impact on my audience’s life, I show them how to be independent, healthy, and love themselves. When I started doing daily vlogs in Arabic, I was one of the only Iraqi Arab girls doing this type of content. Having your life online is not something my family nor my culture is used to; I did face some negative talk about me being a public figure, but I also knew deep inside that this is my dream and passion, and I kept going; it took some time for them to notice that this is part of my career and it’s more than just being an online personality, being a content creator and making a career out it takes a lot of commitment and consistently even when progress is slow, I started with zero background knowledge in producing, filming, and editing but I taught myself through experience. The fruits of all my work ups and downs, are hearing and reading about how I inspire my audience to pursue their dreams.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a content creator, Youtuber, and lifestyle influencer. I collaborate with local, national, and international brands. I’m very passionate about what I do, and I do it with love, care, and curiosity to improve and be better. I don’t just create content online; I love having my experience accessible to people around me. I consider myself very brave for breaking the norms to do what my heart desires; I’m not afraid of failure. In fact, I think it is an essential part of the experimental process that gets you to success.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
There is always something to do in Houston; visiting the art museums is one of my favorite things to do in Houston; there is so much art and history in this city. Houston, with being so diverted gives you the inspiration to meet people from all around the world; it allows you to build relationships with people that can help you help them be better and do better. The variety and accessibility to people and events are just not available for you in the same way in other cities.
