Today we’d like to introduce you to Triumph K9.
Hi Triumph K9, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Passionate. Patient. Persistent. Pet-lover. These are just a few of the characteristics that describe us at Triumph K9. We appreciate that each dog is different and will work to give yours the individualized guidance they need. Our training focuses on communication, motivation, and relationship. We are here to help, whether you are thinking about getting an animal, have a new pet, or already own a dog with behavioral challenges.
Shannon and Eddie Dickman founded Triumph K9 in 2020 with the commitment to provide professional training for dogs of all ages, breeds, and sizes. With over 23+ years of experience in the professional K9 world, we wanted to use our knowledge and experience to help families enjoy pet ownership with well-mannered and obedient dogs.
Eddie has been working in K9 for two decades. He is widely regarded as one of the top trainers in the law enforcement and military community, training thousands of dogs for agencies. He has also deployed as an explosive detection dog handler and personal security handler assigned to the Department of State and Department of Defense in Iraq. During that time, he learned several different training methods and how to be an effective trainer. He has a vast amount of experience in both training dogs and training owners to properly handle their dogs.
Shannon has been in the K9 industry for 16+ years, spending most of her time in the office doing certifications for law enforcement, military, and personal training. She developed a passion for training and the different methods trainers use. She has spent her free time learning and advancing her knowledge of new training methods.
We share a passion for K9s and the amazing things they can do!
We set up Triumph K9 Training in 2020 to offer the people and pets of the Houston area a new method of training. Triumph K9 Training is a fully certified business. We take your pet’s health and well being as seriously as humanly possible!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of the biggest obstacles in starting our own dog training business was balancing your expertise with the realities of running a business and a family with young kids. Beyond training dogs, you have to build trust and credibility from scratch, consistently attract clients in a competitive market, manage legal and liability risks, and handle the financial uncertainty of irregular income in the beginning. At the same time, you’re responsible for marketing, customer service, training of the dogs, and educating owners—who often have high or unrealistic expectations. Successfully navigating these challenges requires strong business skills, resilience, and the ability to manage both people and dogs effectively.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
With over 23+ years of experience training and deploying police and military working dogs, I have served as a detection canine handler and instructor across domestic and international operations. My background includes multiple deployments as an Explosive Detection Dog (EDD) handler providing Private Security Detail (PSD) for U.S. government dignitaries under Department of State and Department of Defense contracts. I have trained, certified, and recertified single- and dual-purpose K9 teams for federal agencies including the Department of State and Department of Energy, and instructed handlers and trainers through extensive certification courses nationwide.
How do you think about happiness?
Seeing our clients excel with their pet companions and build a better bond and relationship with their 4 legged furry friends.
