Check Out Vortxz (Rambo, Jon, Luar, and Noe)’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vortxz (Rambo, Jon, Luar, and Noe).

Hi Vortxz (Rambo, Jon, Luar, and Noe), we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Vortxz began in my head. I began writing songs at the age of 13 and discovered my passion for composing. I, Isaias “Rambo”, met Luar the bassist of Vortxz, in 3rd grade and we grew up playing music together. Five years later, I met Noe, the lead guitarist, and Jon the drummer. Jon and Noe have been close friends and playing in a band for over 8 years. After showing Noe some of my song drafts, he asked me if he could be my producer and help me bring these songs to life, but I wanted him to be more than my producer, I wanted him to be in my band. One night, I took Jon and Noe out to dinner and I asked Jon if he wanted to be our drummer and he accepted. That week we had a jam session in my garage and it felt like we had been playing together for years like we could read each other’s minds. The chemistry in that room made us want to play in front of more people. We were supposed to have a Harry Potter movie night at Noe’s house on black Friday but instead, we decided to throw a pop-up show for our closest friends. About 15 people show up that night, one of them was Luar. He was in the crowd hyping everybody up. We played mostly covers but one of the songs on the setlist was our original “Reality”. Noe asked me who was the guy in the video who was jumping, I told him that was my friend Luar who plays bass. Noe asked if I could convince Luar to join the band, so I asked him and he accepted. That is how Vortxz was born.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Most of our challenges have been managing time and figuring out how to make sacrifices in order to further our careers and our dream. Each of us has had family, money, job and communication issues. After a few busy weeks of playing shows back to back, we decided to take some time off and rest. During this time, it was very difficult to get all four members on the same page with ongoing projects. This small hiatus almost broke us apart due to the pressure of keeping up to the fast pace we had set at the start of our band. As we discussed these challenges, we realized there were some issues from within we needed to solve before continuing. To us, it is very important to be in a comfortable and healthy environment because our best trait as a band is the bond and close friendship we carry with one another. We knew that if our friendship is thriving our music will too.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Vortxz is an Alternative Rock/Indie band. All four members come from a Hispanic/Latino background and we were all raised in Houston. Our aim is to entertain our fans but at the same time help them discover hope within our songs. We take pride in the diversity of genres in our music, we like to pull from many directions. We are known for having somewhat sad songs but played in a way that makes you want to dance. We love blending chorusy guitars with post-punk drum beats and funky bass lines. I was a writer, love making up scenarios in my head and bringing them to life on paper. If you read our lyrics alone, they won’t make sense until you listen to the melody or the beat of our song. Vortxz is not just a band but a story and a place, from which anyone from anywhere can escape to, dance, cry, sing, and forget about the hardships of life. Our band was born post-pandemic, and this world has changed drastically since. We believe our music serves a different purpose now, that is to give our fans a different reality from the one we are all currently in. With every song, every show we play, we want our listeners to arrive at the place where they love, yet they have never been before.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Some of the things we like the most about this city is the art, the diversity, and how big it is. You can drive for thirty minutes and still be within city limits. What we don’t like about Houston is the weather. Our summers are very hot and humid, and we sometimes get bad storms like Hurricane Harvey. Some of my guitar equipment (Noe) ended up underwater during that storm, and we were displaced for months.
