Today we’d like to introduce you to Yahoska Taylor.
Hi Yahoska, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is Yahoska Taylor, I am a proud Latina, originally born in Managua, Nicaragua. I came to the U.S. in Houston, TX, with my parents at a very young age, so I basically grew up as a Houstonian.
My parents taught me the importance of having values and going to college and earn an education, so I earned a Career in Human Resources Management. In college, I was part of an entrepreneurial Business Club and I knew then, I wanted to create a business of my own, but just didn’t know what type of business yet.
My entrepreneurship journey started in 2019 when I was still working for Corporate America, and I had reached all my career goals, but there was that fire in me telling me that I could build something on my own, because everywhere I worked, I treated it like it was my own business, worked extensive hours, did more than I was asked for, took on on roles that didn’t pertained to my job duties, even if I was just getting paid the same salary.
I was giving all my talents and dedication away to make someone else dream happen. While dealing with the stereotypes of the people around me, for being a Female Executive Boss with a strong leadership & personality, because people have a hard time believing that you can be feminine & smart at the same time. I helped many companies build from the bottom.
Many times I questioned, “If I applied the same amount of passion and drive to something of my own, how far could I go?”
– At this moment is when I decided to found Taylor Beauty Spa, LLC, which became a 6-figure business in 2021.
I knew with My background in HR and Business Management, I had the knowledge to create policies and procedures to build a profitable business from scratch for myself, even during the pandemic in 2020, I continued to grow with new strategies.
People loved my work, my professionalism, my personality and my sanitary work environment so much that they began to refer me to friends, family, coworkers, which helped built a steady clientele. It was a challenge to hold two jobs, but my vision was set to allow my business to grow enough to put me out of my 9-5 corporate job.
My mother advised me to make a decision and pick one, because the stress was consuming my personal life. So I chose my dream (time and financial freedom).
I resigned from my Human Resources manager job and in Dec 2020, and became fully self-employed with Taylor Beauty Spa in January 2021.
Currently, I expanded my knowledge further in Esthetics, expanded my business to a store front in the heart of The Woodlands, TX.
I love my business, the community it created of inspiration and love helping women heal their skin and enhance their natural beauty.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I always say, “nothing that is easy, is worth it.” It was not a smooth road, but it challenged me to go out of my comfort zone. There were many struggles along the way, but each one of them pushed me to the next level. I always believe that we are shaped by the battles that we face, but the secret is to be resilient, persevere, and pray. I prayed for every aspect of my business and many times the doors that were meant for me opened, and I chose to believe that the ones that remained closed were not meant to be.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a Texas Licensed Esthetician and PMU Artist. I specialize in Skincare Treatments, such as chemical peels, enzyme peels, microdermabrasion, anti-aging / anti-acne, and skin pigmentation. Furthermore, I specialize in the art of Microblading for eyebrows which is semi-permanent makeup, and Professional Eyelash Extension application. I am proud that I overcame my fear of starting a completely new career, chasing my dream, and creating employment for myself from scratch, doing what I love, even during a pandemic. I am also proud that I’m currently a mentor and inspiration to other Latina young women out there who desire to accomplish their own dreams through the Beauty industry. My professionalism, education, and care that I demonstrate to others are what sets me apart. Taylor Beauty Spa clients are more than just a number, they are a family that I hold dear to my heart.
What’s next?
I would love to create mentorship events where I can speak to women about Business tips and motivate them to chase their dreams, while empowering them to find the courage within themselves to do what they love. My plan is to continue to service my city with excellence and to keep doing what I love, my craft.
