Check Out Zehra Bootwala’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zehra Bootwala.

Hi Zehra, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
About four years ago, I moved to Texas. I did my junior and senior year of high school at a new school and honestly, I was terrified. But with the amazing community around me, I was able to quickly thrive in my new environment. I started my career at the University of Houston two years ago at the CT Bauer College of Business as a Pre-Medical student with a major in Supply Chain Management.

Throughout high school, I successfully managed a private tutoring service between myself and a couple of like-minded peers and have always had a mind for business and learning new things. I began my photography business a year ago with the help of a close friend who encouraged me to pursue my passion. While I still intend to go to Medical School and one day become a doctor, I love photography and have taken classes to learn more about it and truly succeed in my business.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
When I was younger, my family moved around a lot. So much so that the longest time I have spent at any school is three years. This was difficult for me because I never had any close fiends because I would quickly move away.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a part-time photographer while I study to hopefully get into medical school. I specialize in portrait and wedding photography but I love to try new things while working with clients. I am most proud of initially starting my business, it wasn’t on my radar to become a photographer or to try and invest in a photography business. A close friend who knew that I loved photography and that I enjoyed trying new things and started my photography Instagram for me. Over time I updated and added to the business myself but without that initial first step, I wouldn’t have done it.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite memory from my childhood is from when I lived in Boston. I wanted to go to Philadelphia to meet with my best friend. It was summer vacation and visiting her seemed unlikely with my parent’s hectic schedule. One day, my mom came to me and said we’re going to Philly to surprise them, and drove me to Philly to see my best friend and I got to stay for an entire week and travel alone on a bus back home.
