Check out Roena King’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Roena King.

Roena, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I am a Texan, born in Vernon in 1944 and raised in Midland among the pump jacks of oilfields and the western influence of friends on ranches. I was married to Don King in 1965 and have two grown children. I enjoyed graphite drawing in high school but became most interested in painting when I took lessons in oil painting in the late 60’s. By the late 70’s and into the 80’s, I was teaching private lessons in oils, watercolor, graphite, and Prisma Colored Pencil. My current art of mostly Old Masters’ Flemish techniques oil paintings began in 2010.

My classical training and work over the years prepared me for Classical Realism Oil Classes I now teach at Studio Blend Gallery and Coffee Shop in Sealy, TX, on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. I previously worked as the staff support artist for the Michael James Smith online school of realism in England where I give critiques and support to students so they may complete their class projects successfully.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I am very interested in advancing my level of art to photo realism. I find it challenging to myself to attempt to achieve the necessary skills in every area to be able to focus in order to achieve as close as possible the use of color, image values of light and dark, and brush control to produce this level of accomplishment. I paint in the Old Masters’ method, using their teachings to make my works remain secure over the test of time. I hope the people who admire my work will be pleased with my level of artistic skills to accomplish my goal. I paint the things I love and hope that my love for my work will inspire others to reach for their goals as well.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
My original work is currently on display at Studio Blend Gallery and Coffee Shop, 203 Fowlkes Street, Sealy, Texas. All of my past and present works can be seen on my website at www.roena-king.pixels.com where prints are available. Many of my paintings have demonstration videos on my YouTube channel at www.YouTube.com – Roena King Artist – Videos.
