Christopher Saltz of Heights on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Christopher Saltz shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Christopher , so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Integrity – 100%. In my experience, we study to learn new things, which yield a higher intelligence. Energy, which culminates from internal and external stimuli applied to the body, as a whole, is something you must find within yourself. When it comes to one’s integrity, one must always have it at their forethought. If we stand to compromise our integrity, we stand to compromise anything; if we’re willing to compromise anything, what does that say about our humanity?

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is DJ Saltz. I am a local DJ and musician who has worked in the industry for over 20 years. I have performed in Houston, Austin, Dallas, San Antonio, Corpus Christi, and New Braunfels, as well as New York, Brooklyn, The Bronx, New Jersey, and Maine. My portfolio is diversified in that I do not conform to a specific genre or sound. My audiences have come to appreciate my eclectic, groovable, sets; eagerly anticipating more. My current projects include composing and scoring for an upcoming undisclosed indie video game title; as well as my weekly residency, every tuesday and friday at the flat 1701 commonwealth street.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
It took me almost thirty years to figure out what I needed to do in life. I was a cook, couch surfer, and altogether confused about life when I discovered my talent, and my meaning.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Didn’t almost give up, i’ve given up several times! Something always seemed to bring me back to music and mixing as well as composition. At some point, you just learn to either ingratiate it into your lifestyle, or simply move on. Luckily, I never moved on far enough to not integrate it into my daily life.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My integrity matters to me a great deal, and I think if you asked my closest of friends, they would agree. Going back to what I said earlier, I feel like if we are willing to compromise something as integral as having some ethos and mythos, does that guide us – then what does that say we’re willing to give up in the long run? Our humanity itself just to get ahead in life? I try to check up on that reasoning,

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I would stop frivolous pursuits such as the accumulation of wealth and property and focus more on spending time with my family and my closest friends. I am fortunate in that my profession provides me the ability to leave a legacy after I pass from this world, affording me the opportunity to spend time and focus on things such as my family.
