Community Highlights: Meet Adam & Brandy DeSplinter of Rockin D Longhorns

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam & Brandy DeSplinter.

Hi Adam & Brandy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
We were established in early 2022. While developing our new ranch we decided we wanted to add something unique in addition to our cat, dogs, ducks, horses and Brahma/ Brangus cattle. Longhorns seemed a perfect fit, especially living in Texas. We began learning about registered Texas Longhorns and researching their pedigrees and before long, we were hooked. We purchased our first four mamas (Barbed Wire 12, HL Double Stuffed, BCR Bingo 725 and Hicks California Sky) and one heifer (by El Fego and BCR Bingo) and have continued growing ever since. We fell in love with the breed; their characteristics, their differences and their beauty. We continue to focus on developing and growing our herd.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a completely smooth road. As first-generation ranchers, there has been a steep learning curve, especially for Brandy, who had no prior ranching background. Learning cattle care, herd management, and the daily responsibilities of ranch life took time and patience, particularly since we both balance full-time jobs alongside the ranch.

Adjusting to the Longhorn industry and understanding breeding, health, and cattle business decisions are also challenges we have faced together. However, having experienced Longhorn breeders willing to mentor and share their knowledge helps us to overcome these struggles and continue moving forward. Having a lot of patience with the herd and each other has proven to be another learning curve.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Rockin’ D Longhorns is a family-owned ranch located in Santa Fe between Houston and Galveston. We raise registered Texas Longhorns and are involved in multiple aspects of the Longhorn industry. There is the pedigreed side, where breeders focus on genetics and bloodlines, the “yard art” aspect, where steers are kept as pets for enjoyment in pastures and the beef side, as Longhorn beef is a lean and nutritious option.

At Rockin’ D Longhorns, we participate in all three areas, with our primary focus on registered, pedigreed cattle. We have sold many steers as pets, which is rewarding to watch them grow and see other families enjoy them as much as we do.

Because of our location between Houston and Galveston, we also receive frequent requests for ranch visits, photo shoots, and special events. Visitors from all over the world have come to Santa Fe to experience our ranch and spend time with our Longhorns.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Our reputation and that we are breeding quality, beautiful, docile longhorns with solid genetics. We are continuously learning and enjoy talking cattle and sharing our knowledge with others. We love helping new breeders enter the Longhorn industry and assisting families in bringing home their first Longhorns. Texas Longhorns are remarkable animals with a rich history, and being able to help preserve the breed while working with and seeing these beautiful creatures every day is truly rewarding.
