Community Highlights: Meet Amanda Hammers of Threads Of Grace

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Hammers.

Hi Amanda, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Threads of Grace officially launched as an online boutique in March of 2024, but the roots of this journey go back much further. I grew up in the boutique world — my mother owned J Barton Clothiers for 38 years — so serving women through fashion has always been a part of my life. When our family business closed during the pandemic, I took a few years off to regroup and breathe. But over time, I felt the Lord calling me back into this space with a new purpose: to build a boutique that could also be a ministry.

My heart behind Threads of Grace has always been simple — I want women to feel seen, encouraged, and cared for. From the beginning, I committed to giving 10% of our profits to support women in crisis. I wanted every purchase to have meaning.

What started online quickly shifted. Old customers began reaching out, asking if they could come over and try things on. Before I knew it, my living room had transformed into a boutique. I loved having women in my home, laughing with them, styling them, praying with them… I realized how much I had missed the relationships.

From there, I began doing pop-ups, home shows, and local events. And with each one, the desire to create a true storefront grew stronger. After lots of prayer (and a few “okay, God, You’re going to have to show me!” moments), a friend and I prayer-walked Old Town Katy. We found a charming little space that felt like home instantly. Everything came together quickly and smoothly.

We soft-opened on July 29, and the response has been incredible. Former customers found me again, new customers discovered us, and God continued adding beautiful women to come alongside me — women with strengths I didn’t have and wisdom I needed. I’ve felt supported every step of the way.

My favorite part of this journey has been watching the store become more than a boutique. It’s become a gathering place. Women run into old friends they haven’t seen in years. Customers stop by just to talk, pray, and breathe for a minute. I’ve had women receive prayer right in the middle of the store. There’s something special happening here — a sense of community, kindness, and connection that I feel honored to steward.

Threads of Grace has been such a blessing to me, and my prayer is that it continues to be a blessing to every woman who walks through the door.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I don’t think any meaningful journey is ever completely smooth, and Threads of Grace has definitely had its bumps along the way. Starting over after our family’s longtime boutique closed was emotional. I had to rebuild from the ground up — new systems, new vendors, new technology, new everything. There were days when I questioned whether I was crazy for trying to do this again.

Running the boutique out of my home in the beginning was a blessing, but it was also chaotic at times. My living room slowly disappeared under racks of clothes, jewelry and accessories. I’d be styling someone in my entryway while UPS was dropping off another shipment at the door.

When the opportunity for a storefront opened up, the practical side of me worried about finances, timing, and whether I could really do it. A build-out, licenses, insurance, rent — it’s a lot to carry when you’re a small business owner. And as every entrepreneur knows, you wear every hat: buyer, marketer, accountant, cleaner, cashier, prayer partner — all of it.

One of the biggest challenges has simply been balancing it all and learning as I go. I’m not techy by nature, so things like websites, POS systems, SEO, and social media ads were a whole new world. But God kept sending me women who came alongside me with the exact gifts I lacked.

Even with the hard days, I wouldn’t trade this journey. The challenges stretched me, strengthened me, and reminded me that this dream isn’t mine alone. Every obstacle has pushed me closer to relying on God, trusting His timing, and appreciating this community even more.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Threads of Grace is a women’s boutique rooted in faith, community, and connection. I opened the store with a heart to create a place where women feel seen, encouraged, and genuinely cared for — the kind of space where you can come in for a cute top and leave feeling a little lighter than when you walked in.

We specialize in thoughtfully curated clothing, accessories, gifts, and lifestyle pieces for everyday women. I choose items that feel beautiful, wearable, and uplifting — pieces that make women feel confident without being complicated. Our style is feminine, approachable, and intentionally selected with real life in mind.

Something that makes Threads of Grace unique is the mission woven into it. From the very beginning, my heart has been to support women walking through hard seasons. As the business continues to grow, I’m working toward building a sustainable model that allows us to regularly give back and partner with organizations that support women in crisis. It’s important to me that what we do inside the store extends to helping women outside the store too.

What I’m most proud of, though, is the atmosphere God has created here. Customers often tell me the store “feels peaceful” or “feels like home.” Women reconnect with old friends, receive prayer, share stories, laugh, cry — it’s become a place where community happens naturally. That part has been such a blessing to witness.

Threads of Grace isn’t just about shopping; it’s about belonging. I hope readers will stop by our little corner in Old Town Katy to experience that warmth for themselves — whether they’re looking for something new to wear or simply need a moment to breathe.

What makes you happy?
Every morning when I walk into my store, I feel this wave of gratitude wash over me. I’m honestly overwhelmed by what has been created here. It amazes me that God chose me to steward this little space and that He continues to shape it into something more beautiful than I could have planned.

What truly makes me happy is being part of something bigger than myself. Knowing that God is moving through this boutique, bringing the right women at the right time, weaving together stories and friendships — that fills my heart. I love the community that has formed here, the women He’s placed in my life to walk alongside me, and the way we all encourage each other.

Some of my happiest moments are the quiet, unexpected ones — praying with a customer, listening to someone share their heart, or simply offering a little encouragement when someone needs it. Those moments remind me why I do what I do. Threads of Grace isn’t just a store; it’s a place where God keeps showing up, and being part of that brings me so much joy.
