Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Henry.
Hi Amy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
GuideU started in October 2019 as a small-scare business primarily for family and friends, but in August 2021 I expanded the business to anyone who wanted assistance with the college readiness process. During my time as a counselor I saw an increase in the stress families were feeling when preparing for college admissions. My goal was to reduce the anxiety students and parents felt, while providing additional access to someone who is knowledgeable, well-trained, ethical, and competent. All the things that you would expect from a consultant who has an established background in successfully guiding students to their goals.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Fortunately the road has been more smooth than bumpy for me. Naturally I am not a risk taker and so before I started this business I did alot of homework to plan as much as I could to ensure success on the parts that I could control.
We’ve been impressed with GuideU, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
MY BIO;
Amy Hollie is the owner and operator of GuideU, a college preparation consulting company located in The Woodlands, TX. She works with families of students in the 8th – 12th grade to help them prepare for the college admissions process. The focus ranges from selecting high school courses and summer enrichment programs to analyzing degree plans for in state versus out of state college options. Her goal is to reduce the anxiety that families experience throughout this process and help students feel confident about their final college choice. With 22 years of experience in public and private school education, Amy is knowledgeable and competent to support the different needs of all students. Before Covid-19 Amy completed a 2 year term on the University of Houston’s Counselor Advisory Board. Amy holds a BA in Operations Management from Auburn University and a MEd in School Counseling from The University of St Thomas, Houston.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
While it’s impossible to make a guarantee in regards to admission, I often feel the benefit you gain from this type of investment is similar to hiring someone to help you plan a vacation – you avoid potential missteps, the best advice is from someone who has been to the destination before!
I have personally visited almost 50 campuses across the United States.
