Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Gamez.
Hi Angela, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Originally, this all started because I wanted to make a homemade birthday cake for my dog Roxy. As I began researching ingredients, I found myself diving deeper into the benefits of natural, dog-safe ingredients so I could create something not only special, but also health-conscious for my pup.
Once I saw how much my dogs loved it — and learned how beneficial many of these ingredients could be — I started exploring other homemade treats. Like many dog owners, I would sit down with snacks or desserts and see my dogs wanting to join in, but unable to because so many everyday ingredients can be harmful or toxic to pets. That inspired the idea behind creating dog-friendly versions of familiar treats we all know and love.
That’s where many of our products were born, including treats like our Paw Chips, inspired by chocolate chip cookies, our Paw-Damia cookies inspired by macadamia nut cookies, and one of our customer favorite, our Barkin Churros.
What started as something special for my own dogs eventually grew into Two Paws Bakery, where we focus on creating fun and dog-safe ingredients for every pup to enjoy.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, it definitely has not been a smooth road. There has been a lot of trial and error along the way. Because we don’t use traditional everyday baking ingredients, we’ve had to spend a lot of time researching dog-safe alternatives and figuring out how to recreate familiar treats in a way that is both safe and enjoyable for dogs.
A lot of the process has involved experimenting with recipes, testing textures, adjusting ingredients, and learning what works and what doesn’t. There have been many late nights spent researching, baking, and starting over when something didn’t come out the way I envisioned.
On top of that, building a small business from the ground up comes with its own challenges, from learning regulations and licensing requirements to balancing creativity with the business side of things. But every challenge has helped us grow, improve our products, and better understand what our customers and their pups love most.
As you know, we’re big fans of Two Paws Bakery. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Two Paws Bakery is a Houston-based dog bakery specializing in handcrafted, dog-friendly treats made with carefully selected ingredients and a whole lot of love. We create everything from gourmet cookies like our churros, waffles and seasonal stamped biscuits to mini cakes, pup cups designed to let dogs be part of every celebration.
One thing that sets us apart is that we focus on creating treats that feel fun, creative, and familiar to pet owners while still being safe for dogs. Many of our products are inspired by classic treats people know and love, but recreated using dog-friendly ingredients. We truly enjoy finding ways to make dogs feel included in those special moments with their families.
We’re also very intentional about our ingredients and recipes. A lot of time goes into researching natural, dog-safe alternatives and creating products that are not only enjoyable, but thoughtfully made. Because of that, many of our recipes are developed through extensive testing and hands-on experimentation to get the texture, flavor, and quality just right.
Brand-wise, what I’m most proud of is the community we’ve built. From local markets and pop-up events to loyal returning customers, we’ve created something that feels personal and welcoming. Our brand is centered around creativity, quality, and the love people have for their pets.
Ultimately, we want people to know that Two Paws Bakery is more than just dog treats — it’s about celebrating the bond between pets and their families. Every product is handmade with the goal of making pups feel special, included, and loved.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Hands down, the people are what make this city so special. The saying about Southern hospitality being real is absolutely true in Houston. I love meeting new people, hearing their stories, and connecting with such a diverse community. Houston is filled with culture, diversity, and a welcoming atmosphere that makes it feel like home no matter where you come from. Being born and raised here, I’ve always had a deep love and appreciation for this city and the strong sense of community it offers.
If I had to choose my least favorite thing, it would definitely be the summer heat and humidity. Houston summers can be intense, especially when you’re working outdoor markets and events, but even with the heat, I wouldn’t trade this city for anything.
