Today we’d like to introduce you to April Dardis.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I founded Creative Style Furniture just over a decade ago in 2011. The beginnings were humble, the spaces were small, but I was blessed with a team of hard-working individuals (some of whom are still with me today). Though my background wasn’t in upholstery & furniture making, I dove headfirst and taught myself everything I needed to know. By prioritizing quality and client relationships, I’ve been able to grow CSF into what it is today (the largest woman-owned upholstery & case goods manufacturer in Houston). I truly couldn’t have done it without such a dedicated staff and God on my side.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As any small business owner can tell you, it’s never as easy as we make it look. We’ve had our fair share of challenges along the way (whether it’s broken machines or supply chain issues, we’ve encountered it all). Though it’s not always smooth sailing, we’ve learned through our struggles and have effectively grown from them.
We’ve been impressed with Creative Style Furniture, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Creative Style Furniture is the largest woman-owned case goods manufacturer and custom upholstery/reupholstery shop in Houston, TX. We’re known for our attention to detail as well as our lasting client relationships. We are a team of craftsmen who are responsive and attentive, listening to our clients through every step of the process. Whether it’s replacing a missing button or creating custom pieces for large commercial projects, we specialize in it all. A fun fact about us, Mayor Sylvester Turner awarded us a proclamation and declared March 8th as Creative Style Furniture Day!
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
To me, success is about making people happy and doing so consistently. We’ve been able to create magic through furniture and are blessed to have the opportunity! When we’re able to turn an idea into a physical product (and that product then makes someone happy), we can say our job is successful.
