Today we’d like to introduce you to Blanca.
Hi Blanca, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My story really starts long before I became a therapist. It begins with being the first-generation daughter of two parents who immigrated from El Salvador. They worked incredibly labor-intensive jobs and sacrificed so much so I could have opportunities they never had. My dad passed away when I was young, and after that my mom carried everything on her shoulders. She worked incredibly hard, a physically demanding job, all the while making sure my brothers and I were taken care of. Her determination is what motivated me to go to college, especially since no one in my family had ever done so.
Spanish was my first language, so I did not learn English until I started school. Growing up, I constantly moved between two cultures while translating mail, appointments, and everyday life for my family. Those experiences shaped how I see people, and they are a big part of why I offer services in Spanish today. I know how powerful it is to speak to someone who understands your language and your world.
As I grew older, I went on to attend Lone Star College and earned my associate’s degree in Liberal Arts. That achievement lit a fire in me. For the first time, I started to believe I could build the kind of future my parents dreamed of. I transferred to the University of Houston–Downtown and earned my bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Learning about psychology fueled me even more, and it pushed me toward the field of special education.
I became a special education teacher and quickly fell in love with all things behavior. I wanted to understand my students on a deeper level, so I pushed myself further and attended Arizona State University, where I earned my master’s degree in Applied Behavior Analysis. I absolutely loved my role in special education, and much of my time was spent beyond teaching academics. I focused on building meaningful relationships with my students and supporting them emotionally and behaviorally.
Those experiences inspired me once again to grow. I felt called to support people in a different way, which led me to pursue my counseling degree through Lamar University. My journey has never been linear, but I have no doubt that God created every step intentionally to lead me to exactly where I am meant to be.
Today, I work with adults and couples, many of them from the Hispanic community, who are navigating anxiety, cultural expectations, generational pressure, and major life transitions. This work feels deeply personal and meaningful because I understand what it is like to grow up between cultures and carry responsibilities before you fully understand them.
My path has shaped me into the therapist I am today: someone who leads with empathy, realness, humor, and the belief that healing should feel human and accessible. I am grateful every day that I get to do this work.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Being first-generation came with a lot of responsibility. I had a lot of pressure on me to succeed without much guidance. Academically, I often had to figure things out on my own. No one in my family had gone to college before, so every application, financial aid form, and decision felt like unfamiliar territory. Working full-time while going to school, attending night classes, and balancing internships was emotionally and physically draining. There were moments I doubted myself and moments I felt completely overwhelmed, but I kept going because I knew what I was working toward.
As I transition from working directly in the classroom to the role I have now, meeting strict IEP deadlines and ensuring everything complies with legal requirements brings its own kind of pressure. Creating plans that are not only compliant, but genuinely effective and tailored to each student’s needs requires intense focus, collaboration, and emotional energy. It is incredibly rewarding work, but also demanding in ways that continue to shape my resilience.
In counseling, the work requires deep emotional presence and self-awareness, which means I have had to do my own healing and growth along the way.
But every challenge shaped me. The struggles taught me compassion, grit, and the importance of creating safe spaces for others. I don’t think the road was meant to be smooth. Each obstacle added something valuable to the way I show up for my clients today.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Clarity Corner Counseling is my solo private practice where I work with adults, teens, and couples navigating anxiety, life transitions, relationship challenges, and the unique pressures of being first-generation. My approach is warm, practical, and culturally sensitive, and I want clients to feel safe being honest and fully themselves.
I chose the name “Clarity Corner” because I wanted this to be a space where people can unravel everything on their mind and heart, even the things we tend to bury in the corners of our minds. My goal is to help people heal those hidden parts and gain clarity so they can improve their quality of life and feel more grounded.
I’m known for serving the Hispanic community and offering therapy in both English and Spanish. As someone who grew up between two cultures, I know how meaningful it is to speak with a therapist who understands your background and values.
What sets me apart is the blend of my experience in special education, behavior analysis, and trauma-informed counseling. I look at the full picture — emotional patterns, learned behaviors, family systems, and cultural context — and clients often share that they feel truly seen and understood.
More than anything, Clarity Corner Counseling is a place where people can exhale, open up, and start healing in a way that feels real and accessible.
