Community Highlights: Meet Bryan Clary of William Price Distilling Company

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bryan Clary.

Hi Bryan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started the distillery 6 years ago with my college roommate. We took several years to plan and fundraise and we finally found a spot in Garden Oaks and signed a lease in November of 2019 with the goal of opening in the Fall of 2020. Well, all that changed with the pandemic and we decided to pivot to making hand sanitizer in March of 2021 while we were waiting for construction to start. We got our permit and 8 days later we were selling hand sanitizer. We hired all hospitality staff when they were losing their jobs at bars and restaurants and even launched a 501(c)(3) to give back money to bars to help them stay open. We finally launched our spirits in December of 2020 and opened our tasting room in March of 2021. We now are out into bars, restaurants, and liquor stores around Houston and a few locations in other major Texas cities with our Rye, Cask Strength Rye, Potato Vodka, and Coffee Liqueur. We are proud to offer something for everyone and further have Rum, Gin, and limoncello at our distillery as well as limited release products there. We have also just added beer to our tasting room offerings.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The opposite. In addition to the normal startup challenges with construction and permitting, we had the pandemic. It allowed us to grow and develop at a company. It challenged us to overcome supply chain issues both from an ordering perspective and a customer perspective. Everyone has changed the way they are drinking and we must be nimble to think about how we are getting the right product to the right customer in the right location.

It has been a constant uphill struggle but with the help of the local community, we hope to overcome those challenges and continue to grow.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about William Price Distilling Company?
We are William Price Distilling, a small craft distillery that opened up in garden oaks during the pandemic. We are all about #RaisingTexanSpirits and having good drinks with great people.

We make Rye, Single Malt, Vodka, Gin, Coffee Liqueur and Limoncello.

In addition, our destination distillery in Garden Oaks is a great location with plenty of room to throw a party or hold a custom event where we can provide custom immersive experiences to all of our customers such as picking their own whiskey, or having a cocktail class.

We are really proud to be a part of the local community and will always aim to give back and support local at any chance that we can. From giving away hand sanitizer to supporting local PTA’s and other groups. We were founded in a challenging time and can only grow and get better with the support of those around us.

Any big plans?
Our plan for the future is to get people to know who we are! We want to raise brand awareness and become the destination distillery of choice in Houston.

Hopefully, we can continue to grow and be able to hook up our 18ft tall copper still and produce our own bourbon for release in the next 3-4 years. Until then we will be blending and finishing other products purchased elsewhere and providing the best possible craft spirits to the local community.
