Community Highlights: Meet Christine Drown of London Heights Hair Salon

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Christine Drown.

Christine Drown

Christine, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have been licensed since 2000 and worked for several salons until opening my own salon in 2016 and then my second salon in 2020.

I have been a color and styling educator for several companies over the years. I have worked at New York Fashion Week and styled hair for a runway show in Spain. The greatest challenge in running my own business has been letting go of control.

It has been a wonderful and stressful experience. I have learned so much from others and faced setbacks along the way, but in the end, it was definitely worth it.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Running a salon with so many different personalities is always a tough road to navigate.

Covid was definitely a struggle being closed for a long period of time, and then the reopening trickle of clients was still worrying about covid. When that finally seemed to pass, the economy and price increases on products were the next bump in the road. Hopefully, it will level out in the near future.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about London Heights Hair Salon?
London Heights Hair Salon is a boutique salon that specializes in Mago extensions and all things color.

We strive to please every client by making them feel beautiful.

We’d love to hear what you think about risk-taking.
Well, I took a major risk opening my first salon as I had no real idea what I was doing and had to continuously pivot my idea on what my vision was. In the end, without risk, there is no reward.

I had to tell myself the worst thing that could happen was that it would not work, and I would go back to working for someone else. It’s been eight years now, so it’s working, but at times, it’s been very hard.
