Community Highlights: Meet Curran Guiney of Band Barracks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Curran Guiney.

Curran, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always been a passionate musician throughout my life. I started playing guitar at a young age, which turned into a gateway to many genres of music. Music has been a major influence since I can remember.

After graduating college, I took a job working in North Dakota. Late one night I began thinking of ways to provide a service that would give musicians the attention and quality that is so often missing in music studios and creative spaces. We wanted to do something that helps the everyday artists. That’s how the idea of Band Barracks was born! Providing high quality, 24/7, affordable Band Rehearsal, DJ, and Recording Studios! We are currently in the process of designing additional room types to add to the mix.

After much searching, we finally found a property that we fell in love with! Band Barracks was born in a historic 1956 Southwestern Bell building. Completely abandoned, with leaking roofs, no water, no sewage – and yet, now a center for musical creativity. It was a TON of hard work to get it back up and running. But it’s been worth it. We are super proud of the renovations to the building and there are only more exciting changes to come.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Our biggest challenge was taking our building, constructed in 1956, and getting it up-and-running! It was completely abandoned, and had junk everywhere, no electricity, no running water, nothing. We threw ourselves into this task completely. We planned, and hoped that people would come out, but really had no way to know for sure. It’s been rewarding to see a community developing around our studios. The music scene in Houston is alive and well, and I see people working hard to push it to new levels. It’s really inspiring.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
It’s funny, I do not consider myself a salesman, I do not consider myself a manager, I do not consider myself to be in finance, I don’t consider myself to be in operations, nor do I consider myself to be in product design. That being said, I find myself doing all of these things and whatever it takes to get our business to the next stage – thereby achieving our goals of bringing high-quality and affordable studios to everyday artists. What sets Band Barracks apart is delivering high-quality, easy-booking, self-serve music and content creation studios, with an inspiring atmosphere, and a relentless focus on customer satisfaction. Not to mention the technology equipped in our rooms is a game changer to musicians rehearsing live. We want our customers to leave with a smiles on their faces, and content to propel their careers and aspirations further.

What makes you happy?
My passion is music! I love playing with my band and producing. But I also love spending time with my fiancé!
