Community Highlights: Meet Curtis Hodgins of Exo Custom Remodels

Today we’d like to introduce you to Curtis Hodgins.

Hi Curtis, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I worked in Oil and Gas across North America for 17 years as a Supervisor and Project Manager. When Covid hit in 2020, it completely turned my and my family’s world upside down. I have always had a strong construction mindset, but it was always more of a hobby.

I would work on my or my friend’s houses when I was on days off. After I was laid off, I started building small furniture pieces for people in our neighborhood. The projects started to get larger and larger. I was lucky enough to meet some amazing tradesmen and our crew was born. We grew from small jobs to full remodels in the span of a couple of years!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not! There have been so many lessons along the way.

Starting a company from the ground up during a pandemic is hard! There were so many long nights. There were times we wondered if it was worth it. Material shortages, labor shortages, and inflation were all hard to navigate through. We kept our heads up and kept pushing through. Not giving up was the best decision.

We’ve been impressed with Exo Custom Remodels, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We specialize in whole home remodels. We are known for our high-quality finishes and materials, and our high standards when it comes to professionalism, speed, and punctuality.

We know that the renovation process is stressful. We try to minimize as much of that as possible. We strive to create spaces that feel like home and people are proud to show off.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
The interior remodeling business is always changing. There are always new and better products and the next design trend. I feel like we will see more health-conscious building materials. Products that use fewer chemicals and give off fewer VOCs.
