Today we’d like to introduce you to Damon Uherek.
Hi Damon, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Damon Uherek & Gordon Tewart have been a competition BBQ cook off team since 2012, but during the beginning of the pandemic in 2020 they started cooking bbq meals for people that needed them during this time, that sparked the want to do this full time. So soon after Boot Shooters BBQ became a food truck and catering company. Being able to do what they love and sharing it with the city of Houston has turned into something incredible. With every passing year this company is growing! So stay tuned for the next big thing to happen with these guys! Make sure you stop by the food truck or book them for your next event, you won’t regret it!!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Defiantly not smooth, we started out during the pandemic, was supposed to have a brick and mortar that turned into a food truck due to the building not being able to be built due to construction cost and materials prices souring. The food truck had problems, had to have the engine rebuilt $$$$. Meat and food prices soaring, permits being expensive. We tried to open up a ghost kitchen for our burgers that almost bankrupted us. it’s been roller-coaster.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are a competition BBQ team that has started doing what we love for a job. We specialize in BBQ but we have some damn good burgers as well. We strive to have the fresh ingredients all of our sauces are made from scratch. No artificial butters or canned nachos cheese none of that. So, we are a bit more expensive, but you are getting quality food, and we guarantee you won’t leave us hungry. We don’t get to compete as much as we used to, but we do the Houston Rodeo every year and a few others we aren’t the best in the world by any means, but we hold our own, definitely have accumulated a lot of trophies over the years. We do everything from the Food truck to traditional BBQ caterings, weddings, bday parties, festivals, you name it we’ve done it.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
If I could go back before the food truck I would have reached out to someone for sure. It would have saved us so much money, time and headache. Networking is HUGE in this community. It can get you into new places, I have people ask me all the time for good food trucks I know and I always tell them. We do gigs together we get to try other people’s food it’s a good time.
