Today we’d like to introduce you to Dana Tufo.
Hi Dana, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I was looking for a fun, safe place to take my young child and couldn’t find anything. I knew there was a huge need for a soft play space for babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and children with special needs, so I created Lovebug’s Playground. Lovebug’s Playground fosters independent, unstructured play where children can play with other kids their same age.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The pandemic has been our biggest challenge. We didn’t know when we were signing our lease that COVID would shut down everything a couple of weeks later. But, we got through it, and I’m glad we did. Our business is like our child–we love Lovebug’s Playground and all of our guests so much, and we absolutely enjoy talking to everyone who comes in and watching the children play and grow.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Our play space was built for babies to preschoolers. It’s unlike other playgrounds in that we cap the age at six for open play (when anyone can come to play). We have strict cleaning guidelines and are constantly cleaning, and our place is one open space so you can see your children from wherever you are, anywhere in the building. We are also a party venue! Whether booking a child’s birthday, graduation party or baby shower, we can take care of all of your needs and make your event memorable and fun–and, we take care of the cleaning for you!
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I love to read: fiction, nonfiction, anything really. Lately, I”ve been reading parenting books and learning more about Montessori. But, books that I really enjoy are The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch, All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr, and Anything by Jamie Ford (the list goes on, but I’ll stop there). Some great kid reads (or at least books that my children would recommend) are The Book with No Pictures, Rosie Revere Engineer, and This is Owl.
