Community Highlights: Meet David Francis of Francis Home Inspections

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Francis.

Hi David, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was in the IT industry for 20+ years. Worked for one company and was laid off once the pandemic hit. I pretty much had no idea what to do. I didn’t even have a resume. My last resume was done at the out processing center at Ft. Hood when I left the military. I was hired as a contractor for my last job in August of 1997. About 4 years later, they hired me full time and that’s where I was until May of 2020. I thought this was my first and only job ever. I decided that I wanted to work for myself and chose the Home Inspection field after a few realtor friends suggested it.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been a challenge, but challenges make me better. Being the new kid on the block is tough and most realtors already have their preferred inspectors. It also didn’t help that I’m pretty much an introvert. I had to get out of my comfort zone and get out and market myself. I’m also blessed to have the support from my wonderful wife and even some fellow inspectors in the Houston area. Patience is key in this industry. Fortunately for me, my wife is very supportive and a great teammate. She allowed me the convenience of being able to sit back and give our business a chance to grow. She’s also my biggest cheerleader.

As you know, we’re big fans of Francis Home Inspections. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We are (my wife and I) are a family-owned residential inspection company. The pandemic may have been the best thing to happen to me career-wise because it got me out of my comfort zone. I think my calling was customer service and as a home inspector, I know the home buying process is very stressful. I try to ease some of that stress for my clients. When I was laid off, I was told “We were looking at the NUMBERS”. I took that a little personal because of the time I put in, at the end, I was just a number and I promised myself that I would never treat a client as a “number”. I inspect homes as if my family was buying it and most clients become friends. Our motto is “We Speak House”. Before it becomes a home, every house has a story to tell, you just have to speak its language.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
As I mentioned before, being the new guy you have to put in extra work and get your name out there. Word of mouth and Google reviews help me a lot.
