

Today we’d like to introduce you to Delia Olvera.
Delia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I would say it started with a quick vacation to Los Angeles. My fiancée at the time and I tried the birria tacos there in 2019, right before covid precautions reached the US. I had never tried such thing, of course, I had birria once a year at home but never crunchy, cheesy, birria tacos. That’s when we decided to bring that idea back home to Houston. We started selling to neighbors and friends during the quarantine, but once we had nothing but positive feedback on our product we decided to share our birria with Houston by setting up at local markets that were being held. In 2020, I decided to take it a step further and make LA Birris something more than just a neighborhood gem. Due to shortages everywhere, my vision took two years to be completed, and with the support of my fiancée, I have now accomplished one of my life’s goals by being a business owner. Now LA Birris is located in the heart of Houston, offering authentic birria.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being a daca recipient, applying for loans or getting any type of financial assistance was out of the question. Putting the financial challenges aside, just starting a business from the bottom itself is a challenge. I can’t tell you the stress behind it, and of course the risk you’re taking by leaving your secured job. As of now, our obstacle is getting people to try our food once again. Since our food truck took two long years, people tried birria from all over Houston and were not satisfied with the product, so now it’s like starting all over again building up our clientele, literally one taco at a time.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
LA Birris specializes in lamb and beef birria cooked the authentic Jalisco way. We have many entrees with the meat of your choice and of course the consomé that the meat releases with no added water. What sets our product apart from others is that we handpick every single ingredient that we use. We can assure you are consuming the highest quality food, we literally bring our kitchen to you. Everyone that has tried our tacos has said and I quote, “This is the best birria in town!” And I can proudly say that we guarantee you will be satisfied with just one bite.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I hope my story helps others achieve their lifetime goal. If I can do it, trust me you can as well. I faced many challenges throughout my life, yet I’m here as a small business owner. Someone once told me, “There’s no shortcut to a place worth going to” and this long hike is just my beginning.
