Community Highlights: Meet Dr. Abigail Rodriguez of The Aesthetic Center

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Abigail Rodriguez

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Technically, I started working at The Aesthetic Center for Plastic Surgery (ACPS) in 2020 when I began my aesthetic surgery fellowship. I chose to pursue this fellowship after my residency in plastic and reconstructive surgery to gain supplemental training in aesthetic surgery procedures. The ACPS team instantly made me feel like I had found my home for the long run. I admired their emphasis on patient safety and their dedication to ongoing education and research in aesthetics. I was offered a position as an associate after completion of my fellowship in 2021 and have been with ACPS ever since! Thankfully, my practice has grown over the years, largely due to the popularity of my drainless tummy tuck technique, my customized approach to breast surgery, and my rapid recovery regimen for minimizing pain after surgery.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road to becoming a board certified plastic surgeon has been very long and definitely not smooth! Residency training for plastic and reconstructive surgery was physically, mentally, and emotionally challenging. After my 6-year residency and 1-year fellowship, I had to dedicate 2 additional years to preparing for written and oral exams in order to earn the honor of being board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS). It was a significant struggle to balance running my practice while studying for my board exams. To give you a window into what that looked like in reality, a typical day involved performing surgeries from 7 am to 6 pm and then studying until midnight. Along the way, as everyone knows, life events still happen. This amounted to a grueling and taxing schedule but the end result was worth the effort! ABPS board certification is one of my proudest achievements to date.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about I am so proud to work in a phenomenal group practice called The Aesthetic Center for Plastic Surgery.
I divide my time between two of our locations: one is in Memorial City and one is in the Post Oak area. One facet of plastic surgery that attracted me to this subspecialty is the creativity involved in the planning and execution of each surgery. No two procedures are exactly the same in plastic surgery because no two patients are exactly the same. Each surgery must be tailored to the individual, and this customization often requires artistry, problem-solving, and creativity in the operating room. I absolutely love this about plastic surgery and am honored whenever patients entrust me with this decision-making as their surgeon. It is my passion!

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
One of the things I value the most about my career is the personal and professional development that has resulted from the advice of mentors, who have taught me to proactively seek opportunities, particularly outside my comfort zone. My overarching takeaway from implementing their guidance can be best surmised by a quote attributed to George S. Patton Jr. that “there is no such thing as luck, merely opportunity meeting preparedness.”

Pricing:

  • It’s challenging to provide pricing information since my surgical plans are tailored to each patient’s unique needs. I recommend booking a consultation where we can discuss surgical goals in detail. This way, I can provide a comprehensive overview of the services and provide an accurate quote based on your specific requirements.
