Community Highlights: Meet Dr. Cece Cook of Busybody Fitness & Rehab

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Cece Cook.

Dr. Cece Cook

Hi Dr. Cook, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
Growing up as an athlete, I experienced my share of aches and pains, including a meniscus injury in high school which required physical therapy (PT). My therapist, like me, was active in sports and could relate to what I was going through. She was an example of someone who shared the same passions as me and made a career of it. After graduating from PT school, my first position was in the rehabilitation department at a skilled nursing facility. From there, I ventured into home healthcare for the geriatric and pediatric populations. My goal was to work in every skilled setting to keep my skills polished and diverse; however, I’ll admit that sports and orthopedic therapy are what I loved the most.

Eventually, friends began referring people to me for wellness consultation and personal training. Pretty soon, I started having more and regular clients, and I decided it was time to create a brand. In June 2013, I launched Busybody Fitness and Rehab. As most businesses experience in growth, I quickly saw that my clients needed physical therapy services as they regularly asked me to help fix their aches and injuries. Since then, it has been my passion to provide my patients with personalized physical therapy sessions designed for their unique bodies.

Busybody Fitness and Rehab helps patients and clients understand that it’s okay to live a busy lifestyle as long as you create balance. Living in balance means that we handle life, but we also take care of the temples given to us — our bodies. When launching the Busybody brand, I carefully selected the logo because it represents a butterfly in metamorphosis. I believe that as we grow and evolve in life, we become busybodies. We transform into our best being and soar mentally, physically, and intellectually — similar to a caterpillar’s metamorphosis into a butterfly. The Busybody motto is a quote by Jim Rohn, ”Take good care of your body, it’s the only place you have to live.”

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Taking the first leap of faith was the biggest obstacle in starting the business. I left my full-time job so that I could put all of my energy into my PT clinic full-time. I made a lot of sacrifices to work for myself. Entrepreneurship is not for the weak, although it is different for everyone. It’s all about mindset. Shift your thinking. It will not be perfect, but it’s worth it. It’s so important to understand your personal calling here on earth —never underestimate yourself and your calling!

Walking in my purpose led me to get through the most challenging part of this journey. COVID-19 was for sure the 20/20 vision we all didn’t know we needed to experience. It was the end for most and an era of a new beginnings for some. It was a struggle that some small businesses (Including my own) had not planned for but overcame. Someone recently asked me what has been the hardest part of running Busybody for 10 years. My reply was surviving COVID-19. It was as if I started back over at year zero. Perseverance is KEY!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Busybody Fitness & Rehab?
Busybody Fitness & Rehab is a boutique-style physical therapy clinic. We provide rehabilitation treatment to clients of various abilities and injuries, from gym enthusiasts to corporate professionals to professional athletes. We perform therapy sessions both in our clinic and at patients’ homes, providing a hands-on approach to assess and treat various muscle disorders.

We specialize in functional impairments, sports performance, core strengthening, injury prevention and recovery, balance training, pediatric rehabilitation, and more. Our physical therapy sessions are customized for each patient, and we provide a posh and energetic recovery environment.

Busybody clients are always welcomed with a bright, warm smile and receive attentive, individualized therapy services with our hands-on approach to rehab.

As former college athlete myself, we are familiar with sports and athletics and the injuries that come with them.

At this stage in my business, I’m most proud of the company’s growth. The business has been able to hire physical therapist assistants (PTAs) in our home healthcare setting and in clinic. We’ve spread the company’s mission of health and wellness throughout the Houston, Katy, Memorial, and Energy Corridor area. Speaking opportunities within the community and at local businesses have led Houstonians to book Physical Therapy/Wellness appointments because they trust us with the care of their bodies.

I always encourage potential and existing clients with the following message, “Remember you can’t pour from an empty glass. Working on yourself is not selfish. Make your temple a priority.”

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Wellness is the new Fashion! It’s not going out of style anytime soon. The demand for Physical Therapy and Wellness education will increase rapidly within a short period of time. Continue to book your appointments and maintain your physical being.
