Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Kim Tran.
Hi Dr. Kim, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m Dr. Kim Tran. My story starts 6 years ago with my son, Emerson. I’m a Doctor of Chiropractic with board certifications in pediatrics (CACCP) and clinical nutrition (DCBCN), specializing in functional approaches to childhood health. But when Emerson developed severe eczema at three months old, all of that training felt useless. I have 4 kids, I had two healthy daughters before him with zero skin issues. I thought I knew what to do.
I didn’t.
For 18 months, I woke up to bloody sheets, kept mittens on him around the clock, and couldn’t wear dark clothing because he was so raw that lint would get stuck in his skin which was torture. The only spot on his face I could kiss was between his eyebrows. Everywhere else was inflamed or oozing. I tried everything to heal him. Air purifiers in every room, whole house water filtration, HVAC system cleaned, elimination diets, supplements, natural topicals, all the things. Then out of desperation, topical steroids. They’d clear him temporarily and then 10x worse when we stopped. I knew we couldn’t stay on that hamster wheel. I knew there had to be a better way.
The turning point came on my birthday weekend at a Galveston beach house. Old house, probably had mold, crappy mattress, non-organic everything. I hit a breaking point and just stopped trying to fix him for the weekend. Within 24 hours, he started clearing. I literally told my husband that Emerson and I were just going to live here now. That moment told me something I hadn’t found yet.
When we got home, of course he immediately flared again, so I began to dig even deeper. We did so many functional nutrition tests for him to help heal him from the inside out. We did stool testing, genetic testing, food allergy and sensitivity testing. Once we started healing his gut, supporting his nutritional needs and removed ALL his triggers, he healed completely. Turns out our mattress was a huge trigger for him because he was allergic to memory foam, and we had no idea. He was also very allergic to coconut, and that was in a lot of the topicals that we were using on him.
Today Emerson is six, has clear skin, and working towards food freedom. He lives a totally normal childhood. I kiss his whole face every single day and never take it for granted.
That journey became my mission. I help parents heal their child’s eczema without relying on topical steroids. I help families get the roadmap I wish I’d had when we were in the thick of it. Healing eczema from the root through gut health, immune support, and uncovering hidden triggers. No long-term steroids. No more guessing.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not even a little. Building a practice around something this personal and this misunderstood has come with real challenges on both sides of the table. As a provider, I had to fight against the grain of conventional medicine. Telling parents that eczema is an immune and gut issue, not just a skin condition. That their child doesn’t have a lotion deficiency. This isn’t what most families are hearing from their providers. I’ve had to earn trust in a space where the standard answer is still “use the steroid cream and they’ll grow out of it.”
And then there’s the personal side.
Emerson didn’t just deal with eczema. At age two, he went into emergency surgery for a twisted Meckel’s diverticulum. He went septic, needed life-saving interventions, had an ileostomy bag for months, and then a reversal surgery around Thanksgiving. I didn’t think I would ever be changing poop out of a bag from their belly for one of my children but there we were. At age five, he had an ileus, a full GI nervous system shutdown. This only deepened my obsession with gut health and my conviction that the body tells us everything if we’re willing to listen. Watching your child fight for his life has a way of reframing everything.
There were moments I questioned all of it. My training, my approach, my ability to help my own son let alone other families. Mom guilt is real. Provider guilt is a whole other level. But those hard seasons also deepened my conviction. Every difficult moment made me more committed to finding answers, not just managing symptoms. And honestly, I believe God was doing something in those seasons even when I couldn’t see it. God is truly building one of his strongest warriors in Emerson.
Emerson is now thriving and every family I’ve had the privilege of walking through this with has made the journey, every hard stretch of it, worth it.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My husband and I own and operate two chiropractic practices here in the Houston area. Revive Chiropractic + Wellness in Cypress, Texas, and Integrated Chiropractic & Wellness in Fulshear, Texas. We’re genuinely a holistic family. My husband is a chiropractor and practices acupuncture, and I’m a pregnancy and pediatric chiropractor with board certifications in pediatrics (CACCP) and clinical nutrition (DCBCN). We built our practices around the belief that the body has an incredible ability to heal when you give it the right support and we get to live that out every day, together.
My specialty and my deepest passion is pediatric eczema. My signature program is the Pediatric Eczema Relief Blueprint, PERB for short. I specialize in one thing: helping parents heal their child’s eczema from the inside out, without relying on topical steroids forever.
What sets me apart is my story with Emerson and that I’ve lived this. I want parents to understand that eczema is an immune system reaction that shows up on the skin. The skin is just sending a message. Your child does not have a lotion deficiency. Most families come to me after being told to “just moisturize more” , “use this stronger steroid” or “they’ll grow out of it.” They’ve tried every cream, every elimination diet, every natural remedy and they’re exhausted.
What they haven’t had is someone looking at the root causes. Eczema is so multifactorial.
Inside PERB, we use functional lab testing (stool, organic acids, mycotoxins, food allergies and sensitivities, genetics) to see exactly what’s happening inside your child’s gut and immune system. From there, we build a personalized healing protocol using my 3-step framework: Soothe, Strengthen, Secure.
It’s a 4-month high-touch program with live group calls, private messaging, a full curriculum, and real hand-holding support. Because information alone isn’t enough, parents need a guide. We have so much information overload that it’s really about implementation, knowing what the next step is. And that’s what we do inside the PERB. Families are also in a community of like-minded parents just trying to heal their child of eczema too. No more suffering in silence.
What I’m most proud of? The results families get that they stopped believing were possible. Kids sleeping through the night. Eating freely again. Clear skin. Moms who went from Googling at 2am to finally feeling confident and in control of their child’s healing. Families getting to just live without having their lives dictated by what kind of skin day their child is having.
That’s what we’re building here. Not just symptom management. I always say we’re healing for forever, not just for now.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Get in the room. Get in the arena. Seriously, that’s where everything changes.
I’m currently being mentored through The Wealthy Practitioner with Dr. Stephanie Wigner, and it has been one of the best decisions I’ve made for my practice and my growth. What I love most about it is that they call you out AND call you up. There’s no ego. Everyone in the room genuinely wants to see you win, even if they’re in the exact same field as you. That kind of environment is rare, and when you find it, you hold onto it.
When you’re looking for a mentor, find someone who teaches you that capacity is a lie. Someone who pushes your boundaries, sees potential in you that you don’t even see in yourself yet. And doesn’t just talk strategy but does the inner work and mindset work too. Both matter. You can have the best business plan in the world and still be the thing standing in your own way.
And find someone whose core values align with yours. That part is non-negotiable for me. My mentor’s mantra is to grow without sacrificing who you’re building it all for. That hits home for me every single time. I want to leave a legacy for my children and my family but not at the cost of actually being present with them. A mentor who gets that changes everything about how you build.
Beyond formal mentorship, I also love masterminding locally. Connecting with other practitioners and entrepreneurs in my community to share what’s working, what’s not, and just learning from each other. No ego, no competition. Just real people who want to grow together. Show up as yourself. Lead with generosity. Do the heart work and get in the rooms with people who are doing better than you. Who you genuinely aspire to be. That’s where the growth lives.
