Community Highlights: Meet Dr. Lakisha Green of EPIPHANIES DESSERTS

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Lakisha Green.

Hi Dr. Lakisha, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’m Dr. LaKisha Green, founder of Epiphanies Dessert Studio and creator of the viral “Cake in a Can.” My journey started long before entrepreneurship — I spent over a decade working in maternal-child healthcare while raising my children and pursuing higher education, eventually earning my doctorate in Leadership & Organizational Development. Throughout that journey, creativity and service were always at the center of who I am.

What began as a passion for baking evolved into a full-scale business after people connected deeply with not just my desserts, but the experience and joy attached to them. I taught myself many of the skills I use today, built my brand from the ground up, and turned difficult seasons of life into fuel for innovation and growth. Today, Epiphanies Dessert Studio ships nationwide, has been featured on FOX 26, and continues expanding through corporate partnerships, pop-up markets, mentorship, and large-scale production goals.

Beyond desserts, my work is rooted in impact. I’m passionate about empowering communities through education, entrepreneurship, wellness, and mentorship initiatives tied to my nonprofit work. My story is really one of resilience, reinvention, faith, and refusing to stay boxed into one identity.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. As a single mother, entrepreneur, and former maternal-child health nurse transitioning into the culinary industry, I faced significant financial, emotional, and personal challenges while building my business and raising my children. I started Epiphanies Dessert Studio from pure passion and determination, often balancing long hours, motherhood, school, and survival all at once while earning my doctorate.

There were seasons of instability where I operated my business from temporary kitchens, hotels, and shared spaces just to keep orders flowing and customers served. I have experienced setbacks in housing, funding limitations, burnout, and the pressure of building a brand without major investors or inherited resources. Scaling a viral product while learning manufacturing, distribution, and operations in real time has also come with a steep learning curve.

Despite the obstacles, every challenge strengthened my resilience and creativity. Those experiences pushed me to innovate, leading to the success of my nationally shipped “Cake in a Can” concept and expanding my mission into mentorship, education, and community impact through EUDAEMONIA. My journey has taught me how to turn adversity into opportunity while continuing to create joy, connection, and purpose through my work.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
