Community Highlights: Meet Habiba Musawar of CakeCouture

Today we’d like to introduce you to Habiba Musawar.

Hi Habiba, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Habiba Musawar, wife of a very wonderful and supportive husband and proud mom of two boys. By education, I completed my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree in Pakistan. During my last year of studies, I got married, and soon after my husband returned to the U.S. Since my family didn’t allow me to work outside, I spent the first five years of marriage at home, waiting for my spouse visa. Those years were some of the hardest—we were apart most of the time, and I went through the early years of motherhood with my first child without my husband by my side.

When my visa was finally approved, I came to Dallas to join my husband. At first, it was just the two of us and our children. I didn’t have friends or family here, and it often felt lonely. But I always wanted to be independent, to do something meaningful for myself and for my family. That’s when baking found me.

It all started with a cheesecake. My husband, who is from New Hampshire, told me he missed the cheesecakes from back home. Out of love, I baked one for him, and he encouraged me to keep going. Soon, friends tried my baking, then their friends, and before long CakeCouture was born. What started as a cheesecake has grown into custom cakes, luxury wedding cakes, and dessert tables.

The journey has not been easy. I’ve faced sleepless nights, cakes falling apart, missing ingredients at midnight, and even negativity from people who questioned, “What is she doing?” But I kept going—with prayer, determination, and the constant support of my husband. He helps with the kids, runs to the store when I run out of ingredients, and even delivers cakes when needed. Along the way, CakeCouture gave me more than just a business—it gave me a community. Through it, I’ve made so many friends and connected with other bakers who inspire and support me.

Today, I feel proud that what began with one cheesecake in my kitchen has grown into a brand people recognize and trust. Cake Couture is my passion, my dream, and a reminder that with faith, hard work, and the right support, you can build something beautiful even from the hardest challenges.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road at all. My journey has been filled with challenges, both personal and professional. In the early years of marriage, I lived apart from my husband while waiting for my visa, raising my first child on my own in Pakistan. Those five years were very difficult and shaped my desire to become independent and do something meaningful for myself and my family. Building Cake Couture meant learning everything from scratch—getting the right licenses, figuring out recipes, balancing orders with caring for two kids, and staying up late at night to finish cakes. There were moments when cakes fell apart, ingredients ran out at midnight!!! But every challenge pushed me to grow stronger.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
“I specialize in custom desserts and cakes, with a focus on creating unique flavor combinations and visually stunning designs. I have experience in [cake decorating, cheesecake varieties, dessert tables, etc.], which allows me to deliver products that are not only delicious but also memorable for special occasions.” “What sets me apart is my combination of creativity and precision. I focus on both flavor and presentation, ensuring every dessert is a unique experience. I also enjoy working closely with clients to understand their vision and turn it into reality, which makes my creations personalized and special.” My worth lies in creating desserts that leave a lasting impression. I bring a combination of high-quality ingredients, artistic design, and attention to detail that elevates any event or gathering. Clients trust that my creations will not only taste amazing but also enhance their celebrations.”

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
“Never hesitate to start something—everything begins from zero. No matter the field or who supports you, focus on the one person who believes in you; for me, that’s my husband. Respect yourself and your work, and everything will flow smoothly. Cake Couture is more than desserts—it’s about sharing love, creating moments, and treating every client like family. Through this journey, I’ve made friends, found inspiration, and discovered the joy of turning passion into something meaningful.” “I have a dream that one day I’ll have my own bakery—Inshallah—with wedding cakes, dessert tables, and a cozy space where people can come, enjoy a cup of coffee or tea, and share sweet moments. With the love, support, and encouragement of all of you, I’m determined to make this dream come true.”
