Community Highlights: Meet Heidi Smith of Flamingo Rodeo Interiors

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heidi Smith.

Heidi Smith

Hi Heidi, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Originally from Louisiana and drawing experience from influences of my time living in New York & California, when I moved to South Texas three years ago, I was confident that I could bring a unique sense of style to the market. Always seeking creative outlets and drawn to architecture and design, it was the gut renovation of our home in Laguna Beach that spurred my desire to be a part of the home design industry. Once I found the perfect location in The Woodlands to share my passion, Flamingo Rodeo Interiors was born.

People often ask where the name came from. I wanted a name that told the story of how my life experiences influenced my personal style. Flamingos are coastal birds, and living on every American coast has shaped my design aesthetic. Also, when flamingos have babies, they lose their feather color, which returns after the babies become independent. Similarly, I started my business when my own children began school and rediscovered my identity as a working mom.

To me, the word “rodeo” suggests a gathering, a showcase of skills. Though flamingos and rodeos seem unrelated, the combination of the words creates an intriguing visual. My style, like these two words, combines diverse aspects of my life, resulting in a unique visual experience.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This is my first “rodeo” as an entrepreneur. I knew going into this that it absolutely would not be easy. I knew there would be challenges and sleepless nights. One of my biggest struggles is letting go. I’m afraid no one else will care about my business and my customers as much as I do, so delegating important tasks as we grow and scale has been really challenging. Thankfully I’ve found very dedicated and capable team members, so they’ve made it easier for me.

As you know, we’re big fans of Flamingo Rodeo Interiors. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?

What do you think about happiness?
What makes me genuinely happy is meeting new people. There’s something incredibly fulfilling about connecting with others, each interaction adding a new layer to my understanding of the world. Every person I meet carries unique stories, insights, and experiences. Sharing moments and ideas with them not only broadens my own perspectives but also deepens my appreciation for the diverse tapestry of human life.

Additionally, meeting new people often leads to unexpected opportunities and learning. Whether it’s discovering a new culture, picking up a new hobby, or gaining insights into different ways of thinking, these interactions continuously fuel my personal and professional growth. They remind me of the interconnectedness of our lives and the potential for any encounter to turn into a meaningful relationship or a transformative experience.

So, meeting new people isn’t just about expanding my social circle; it’s about continuously rediscovering the world and myself within it, which is a profound source of happiness for me.
