Hi Helen, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I own and operate a franchise of NIA (Network in Action), with my husband; Oscar Maldonado. My background is all in Sales, Marketing, and Business Development. I was approached by the founder of NIA; Scott Talley, when he was just starting the organization. I immediately loved the idea of what he was creating and was literally member #3 when he started the very 1st NIA group! As he grew and started selling franchises I became a member in 4 NIA groups. Scott Talley kept trying to sell me a franchise but I kept saying no. I didn’t want more time away from my husband. At one networking event where my husband was with me, Scott, once again asked me to but a franchise of NIA and my husband; Oscar said to him “send me the franchise documents to review”! As he reviewed the NIA franchise ge told me that “We should do this!” The minute I heard that 2 letter word; “we”, I was all in! Something we could do together! With his background as an Attorney and my background in sales, marketing and business development we were sure to be a great power team to help other business owners grow through the NIA system of building lifelong relationships and entrepreneurial education! We quickly built out our 1st or our 5 NIA Professionals groups! My husband and I have been married for 30 years now. Together we have raised our two adult children and also work with them in our entertainment business; AmericaStar Entertainment. We have a live band; “Nowhere But Up” with our youngest Angelique as lead singer, Oscar as lead Guitarist /vocals, our eldest; Harley as bassist and their High-school friend; Neel Wani on Drums! My job title in the band is “La Jefa” / the Boss, AKA: “The Peopler” or band manager. “Nowhere But Up” plays top 40 dance music in multiple genres entertaining crowds at community events, festivals, private parties and Corporate events. They are working on the final stages of self production of their 1st original album to be released by the end of 2025!
We are a strong family working together and supporting each of our dreams together and individually!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Life is a Journey, not a race! Together, with God in the center of our marriage, family and all we do, putting Love 1st we can overcome anything! Never giving up! Everyone with goals and dreams will have struggles along the way, but focusing on those goals and dreams with the faith that God is leading us every step of the way is what we choose to get us to where we were created to be!

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Many life lessons have been learned along my journey but Love 1st, the most important! Love 1st is the most important command from God and that is and should be in all we do! Love what you do, who you do it for, who you do it with and your journey will be all you ever dreamed of, by the Grace of God!
