Today we’d like to introduce you to Hillary Kotwal.
Hi Hillary, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Essential Family Nutrition started in 2017 and followed me where I went. I work with clients to repair their relationship with food and empower them to make sustainable healthy choices. After becoming a Registered & Licensed Dietitian in 2016, I worked in clinical & outpatient nutrition. I also had experience in school nutrition and food service nutrition. So I combined all my experience to start a private practice to help families work together to support each other in their health goals. Beyond individual clients, Essential Family Nutrition does go out to various workplaces and schools to speak on topics such as picky eating, baby-led weaning, workplace wellness, nutrition 101, etc.
In 2020, Essential Family Nutrition expanded to include Graze & Peace, which is a healthy catering company that provides food art for special events or workplace lunches. I am blessed to serve clients all around Texas!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Finding the “sweet spot” has been a journey. I was very grateful to have opened a healthy food cafe in Sealy, TX but after a couple of years decided to homeschool my children. I grieve that our town doesn’t have a healthy food option anymore.
We’ve been impressed with Essential Family Nutrition, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Both Essential Family Nutrition and Graze & Peace would not be possible without the Lord’s direction. My private practice is part of the wellness ministry at First United Methodist Church in Sealy and they have encouraged and supported me so much! I’m so grateful for my church family, and that I can share the love of Christ with others while helping them to make healthier choices nutritionally.
I am open to virtual and in-person sessions for anyone who is a Texas resident and wants to stop dieting and start taking steps to be healthier one meal at a time. Nutrition impacts so much of our daily lives and so we must make it a priority to schedule time for and work for. I help clients feel empowered to make behavior modifications and create healthy habits sustainably.
What do you think about luck?
Things turn out best for the people who make the best out of the ways things turn out. Even bad “luck” can provide a good opportunity and lesson!
