Today we’d like to introduce you to Ivan Quiroz.
Hi Ivan, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I immigrated to Texas from Mexico City in 2014. It was very hard in the beginning not speaking the language, not knowing the city or anybody outside of my family living here. I attended West Side High School for a year, where I struggled but eventually learned enough English to get by and get a job.
I started a job in a small Italian restaurant in Katy, where I met two people that will have a very big impact on my life and career, Michael and Jeremy. I worked at the restaurant for a while, making enough to pay for my tuition at Houston Community College. Both Michael and Jeremy left the restaurant and I stayed there until the COVID pandemic in 2020 will close the restaurant, leaving me, my brother and my mother without an income as everyone in my household was in the restaurant industry. Desperate from the situation I reached out to Michael, who had previously offered to help me get started in the construction industry, but me, scared of heights, always said “no”, now with nothing to lose and bills piling up, decided to give it a try.
I had worked in construction before, even in roofing, but never as an inspector nor contractor, always labor, so this was unknown territory for me. But, with bills piling up, a recent transfer to the University of Houston and no other job prospects, I had enough motivation in my plate to try my best.
Thankfully, I was doing great, and with the constant communication that I kept with Jeremy, he decided to give it a try as well, he had also worked in construction before, matched with his great communication skills, he was killing it as well. Then, Ida hit Louisiana, and the company we worked with sent us to help over there. As if it wasn’t enough to leave my family for an undetermined time and pause my studies, my car gets stolen the very week I was supposed to leave. With the help of my always supportive mother, I was able to gather a bit of money to get another car and made my way to New Orleans.
In New Orleans, unfortunately, we ran into a lot of issues with the company we worked with, issues that were affecting us and our customers, it was then when Jeremy and I, decided to part ways with the company and start our own business, thus Mission Roofing was born in New Orleans and eventually to my adoptive hometown Houston.
With Mission Roofing we aim to improve on the issues that we see in the industry today, the “money grab” mentality that many contractors live by. We want to blend our customer service experience that we learned in the restaurant industry and our technical knowledge from our years in construction, to create a smooth and favorable experience for our customers.
Growing up in Mexico City, I grew with a very vulnerable spot for abandoned dogs, luckily enough I have partnered with a great person that loves animals as well, so we have made it our mission to help with what we can, local shelters and rescue homes to help provide a better life for neglected and abandoned pets.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The industry itself it’s a constant struggle, as most people could agree, contractors do not have the best reputation and it is very well earned. Getting customers to trust you is not an easy task, even more when you are starting. But we trust our work and ethics and are confident that with hard and smart work, we’ll continue to grow in benefit of our company, staff, customers and community.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Mission Roofing?

Our company strongly believes in giving back to our community, and that everyone deserves a good roof, including our best friends, that is why we donate a portion of our profits to local dog shelters and local Rescue Non-Profit Organizations. Our mission is to help everyone.
What are your plans for the future?
